Fantasy Analysis
Ibanez had a decent season in terms of power and run production in his final year with the Phillies. However, his batting average and on-base percentage drooped badly, and at age 39, those numbers may not rebound. Even with regular at-bats in a potent Yankees lineup, Ibanez should only be considered in deeper mixed leagues and single-league formats. (Updated 02/07/2012).

Raul Ibanez had the best year of his career in 2009, hitting 34 homers with an .899 OPS to emerge as an elite Fantasy option. In the two years since, he has dropped off the radar completely. He can't even find a job right now, having completed his three-year deal with the Phillies by hitting .245 with a .707 OPS. So what went wrong for him? It's simple, really: He began to act his age. He'll turn 40 this season, meaning he turned 37 the year he made a name for himself in Fantasy. He couldn't cheat Father Time forever. Of course, a 20-homer season still counts for something, and Ibanez did have one of those last year. But before you pencil him in for another this year, keep in mind that 15 of last year's 20 came in the Phillies' bandbox of a stadium. He hit .210 with a .577 OPS on the road. Most likely at his age, he's destined for a platoon role, and if it's for a team that plays in a pitcher's park, it could be short-lived. You're better off avoiding Ibanez in mixed-league drafts.
