Preseason Outlook

Remember all that talk of a decline this time last year? Hogwash. Jeter reasserted himself as one of the top shortstops in Fantasy with an all-around stellar performance in 2009, looking younger than his 35 years of age. The move to the leadoff spot seemed to spark some life into him, compelling him to steal 30 bases for the first time since 2006. His age suggests he won't repeat that total, but at least you can count on him to contribute in the category again. One thing that likely won't change with age is his ability to hit .300, something he has failed to do only three times in 14 seasons, most recently in 2004. And of course, batting leadoff for the Yankees, he'd have to lose a limb not to score 100 runs. He doesn't have the upside of a Hanley Ramirez or a Troy Tulowitzki, but the security he offers at one of the weakest positions in Fantasy makes him well worth drafting a round or two after those elite options go off the board.
