Lowe still decent in loss to Marlins: Cleveland starter Derek Lowe was decent on Sunday afternoon at home against the Marlins. He just wasn't good enough to beat Josh Johnson in this game. Lowe couldn't win his seventh victory of the season and took the loss to fall to 6-2 as he allowed just two earned runs on six hits and a walk over six innings. Johnson held the Indians down and Miami was able to get to the Cleveland bullpen behind Lowe. Lowe struck out two batters in the start as he threw 94 pitches. His ERA remains fantastic on the season at 2.15 for the Indians. (Updated 05/20/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Lowe was coming off pitching a complete-game shutout for his sixth win at Minnesota. We can't really say Sunday was a poor performance, however, considering he's allowed two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive outings for the Tribe. Lowe's having a phenomenal season thus far with his 6-2 record and 2.15 ERA. That said, he only has 15 strikeouts in 58 2/3 inning and his WHIP is pretty high at 1.41. With numbers like that, you might think Lowe could fall apart at any moment. Still, he's been consistent for the Indians and can be used in deeper mixed Fantasy leagues as long as he's winning. His next scheduled start comes next Saturday in Chicago against the White Sox. (Updated 05/20/2012).

05/24/2012 21:17 3 to Watch: The 'Is this year different in Cleveland?' edition
The Indians will be in first place on Memorial Day, just like last year. This was the time that their 2011 season began falling apart. If this year is different -- and they think it is -- then maybe we'll start seeing evidence of it this weekend in Chicago. Hey, as 3 to Watch says, somebody has to win the American League Central, and right now the heavily-favored Tigers are struggling.
05/18/2012 14:01 Some American League pitchers can actually hit
Even though some American League pitchers look as if they don't know which end of the bat to hold, there are some pitchers in the AL that look comfortable in the batter's box even after losing the safety of the DH.

05/15/2012 15:58 Lowe throws shutout against Twins
Derek Lowe pitched his first shutout in nearly seven years, throwing a six-hitter Tuesday and leading the Cleveland Indians over the Minnesota Twins 5-0.
After reemerging with a stellar September in 2010, Derek Lowe continued to pitch like a top-of-the-rotation starter in 2011. At least he did for about four starts. It was all downhill from there, though, as Lowe allowed five earned runs or more in 10 of his final 30 starts en route to an MLB-worst 17 losses. He went as deep as seven innings only twice all season and played a big part in the Braves' historic September collapse, going 0-5 with an 8.75 ERA for the month. The sinkerballer was so miserable that the Braves actually paid the Indians $10 million to take him off their hands this offseason, preferring the salary relief to the extra veteran arm. Lowe has shown the ability to make adjustments in the past, which is why you shouldn't completely wash your hands of him in Fantasy, but at age 38, he probably doesn't have much left in the tank. Plus, the move to the AL certainly won't work in his favor. His so-so strikeout potential made him less than a true ace even when at his best, so in standard mixed leagues, you're better off targeting a younger arm and letting Lowe ride off into the sunset.
