Ordonez 'close' to retirement: Former Detroit slugger Magglio Ordonez could be nearing the end of his career. The veteran outfielder posted "I am very close to my retirement" in Spanish on his Twitter account on Monday, and the message was confirmed by the team. Ordonez, who is currently a free agent, hit .309 with 294 home runs and 1,236 RBI in 15 seasons -- eight with the White Sox and seven with the Tigers. (Updated 03/26/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Ordonez, who turned 38 years old during the offseason, hasn't been able to find a new home after suffering a devastating ankle injury during the ALCS against Texas last season. Fantasy owners should continue to ignore Ordonez in all formats as his career appears over. (Updated 03/26/2012).
11/01/2011 16:35 Tigers GM: Ordonez, Guillen not likely to return
Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski says it is highly unlikely free agents Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen will be back next season.
After six years of near-elite production in the middle of the Tigers lineup, Magglio Ordonez took a noticeable step back last year. He still got a respectable number of at-bats for a team with few alternatives, but his .634 OPS was closer to what you'd see for a reserve infielder than a starting corner outfielder. Ordonez just doesn't seem to have much left in the tank at age 38, and the rash of injuries over the last few years certainly hasn't helping his cause. He's coming off ankle surgery this offseason -- his second in as many years -- after breaking his right ankle in Game 1 of the ALCS. Though reports at the time suggested he might have to retire, Ordonez has every intention of returning in 2012. No matter where he signs, though, he'll be a reserve and won't get the at-bats to make a significant Fantasy contribution. (Updated 1/25/12)
