Rivera still without surgery date: Yankees injured closer Mariano Rivera still does not have a scheduled date for surgery to repair his torn right ACL, reports the New York Post on Tuesday. The blood clot that was found has yet to clear up yet. "It's not frustrating because there's nothing I can do," said Rivera. (Updated 05/22/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Rivera is not expected back this season so there should be little concern that the surgery has continued to be delayed. There is still time for him to undergo the surgery and return to full health for next year. Rivera, the all-time saves leader in MLB history, vowed to pitch again in 2013. For now, though, Fantasy owners should release him in all seasonal formats. (Updated 05/22/2012).

05/04/2012 17:03 Mariano Rivera says he's coming back
Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, who suffered a season-ending knee injury while shagging flies before Thursday night's game against the Royals, says his career isn't over.
Even at age 42, Mariano Rivera may be the closest there is to a sure thing as an elite Fantasy closer. While the Fantasy relief pitcher leaderboards tend to spit pitchers out like a revolving door, Rivera has been a constant among the top closers for most of his 15-year reign as the Yankees' ninth-inning man. Last season Rivera was as good as ever, even boosting a strikeout rate that had sagged in 2010. He also notched 44 saves, which matched his highest total since 2004, and posted a sub-2.00 ERA for the fourth season in a row. While this could be Rivera's final season, he has shown no signs of slowing down, so he could be leaving the game while still in prime form. Once again, owners should plan on drafting Rivera as a No. 1 relief pitcher in all formats. (Updated 2/21/12)
