| Twins not interested in Jim Thome |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (3/17/13) The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Sunday that the Minnesota Twins are not expected to sign free-agent slugger Jim Thome.
"I would doubt there would be any outside solutions," manager Ron Gardenhire said of adding someone to the team's bench.
The 42-year-old Thome remains a free agent and it looks like he'll start the 2013 season without a team. Thome played 58 games last year between Philadelphia and Baltimore and hit .252 with eight homers and 25 RBI through 163 at-bats.

| Gardenhire wants Thome reunion |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (3/1/13) Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters Friday that he hopes the team brings back designated hitter Jim Thome, however, a snag in the deal could be Thome's desire for a major-league contract. Thome, who has played in 22 seasons during his big-league tenure, spent the 2012 campaign between Philadelphia and Baltimore.

It'll be Andy Pettitte (5-4, 2.87) for the Bronx Bombers and Wei-Yin Chen for the O's at 8:07 p.m. ET in Baltimore (TV: TBS).

The Orioles just keep shocking the world, as Friday night they went into Rangers Ballpark and knocked off the two-time defending American League champion Rangers. | Jim Thome was never much of a Fantasy option in 2012. Granted, nobody expected him to be at the beginning of the year. He had signed with the Phillies, and the National League was no place for a DH on the wrong side of 40. But even after he was traded to the Orioles in June, a herniated disk in his neck prevented Thome from securing anywhere close to full-time at-bats. He still had a good time, though, which is why, provided he finds a taker, he'll be back in 2013. At age 42, he might not get more than a couple starts per week, but he could still contribute double-digit homers in that role. If you need a little extra pop late in an AL-only draft -- again, provided he signs with an AL team -- don't forget about Thome. (Updated 1/9/13) |
