Vazquez went 13-11 with a 3.69 ERA in 32 starts for the Marlins last season and appears to have something left in the tank still at 35. The will might not be there, however, so for the time being he will remain retired. Things could change towards the middle of the season so keep an eye on the situation going forward. If you saw Javier Vazquez pitch in the second half last year, you'd think you had gone back in time eight years. Limited early by the same loss of velocity that ruined him in New York, Vazquez suddenly rediscovered his form in late May. His grand re-entry into the Fantasy spotlight culminated in a 0.71 ERA in September, giving him a 1.85 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 8.3 strikeouts per nine innings over his final 18 starts. But before you target him as an under-the-radar ace, picturing him in an Expos uniform all over again, you might want to make sure he's actually going to pitch in 2012. He was 50-50 on retiring at the end of the season, and the deeper we get into the offseason, the more unlikely his return becomes. The Marlins have already turned to Carlos Zambrano instead, so apparently they're convinced Vazquez isn't coming back. The 35-year-old is still worth a flier in NL-only leagues in case he has an unexpected change of heart, but in mixed leagues, you'd be wasting your time with him. (Updated 1/25/12)
