| Phillies invite four more to spring |
| (1/16/09) Infielders Anthony Hewitt, Pablo Ozuna and Jorge Velandia and left-hander Jacob Woods signed minor league contracts with the Phillies and were invited to major league spring training. Hewitt, 19, was the Phillies' first-round selection in last year's draft. In 33 games with the rookie-level Gulf Coast Phillies in 2008, Hewitt batted .197 with seven doubles, one home run and nine RBI. |

Grady Sizemore homered twice and drove in five runs, Aaron Laffey pitched seven sharp innings and the Cleveland Indians routed Toronto 12-0 Saturday night to hand the Blue Jays their fourth straight loss.

Depleted Jays call up IF Velandia, demote OF Lind
One night after losing shortstops David Eckstein and John McDonald to injury, the Blue Jays purchased the contract of infielder Jorge Velandia from Triple-A Syracuse and sent struggling outfielder Adam Lind back to Triple-A.
