Stairs calls it a career: According to the Montreal Gazette,Matt Stairs retired after a 19-year career on Wednesday. He was released by Washington on Monday. "Im not sad. I had a great career, a long career," Stairs, 43, told the website. "Its one of those things where I can walk away today and not be sad about it." Stairs also played for Boston, Oakland, the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Texas, Detroit, Toronto, San Diego and Philadelphia. Stairs appeared in 1,895 games, hitting .262 with 265 home runs and 899 RBI. (Updated 08/03/2011)
