Chris Getz decides to retire

(5/16/2014) Blue Jays infielder Chris Getz has decided to retire after not reporting to the team's minor-league affiliate, according to SBNation.

Getz hit just .160 in 25 at-bats in the majors. He was designated for assignment May 11, and was not claimed on waivers. After considering his options, Getz decided to hang up his cleats. Over his career, he hit .250/.309/.307 in 1,409 at-bats.

Getz was outrighted by the club Tuesday, but did not appear at Triple-A. There's some speculation that Getz will retire. He's posted a .250/.309/.307 line over 1,409 career at-bats.

(9/4/2013) Royals infielder Chris Getz underwent testing Wednesday to determine whether he has a concussion, the Kansas City Star reports. The results of the test are not yet known, but if Getz does in fact have a concussion, he will be placed on the seven-day disabled list.

(8/21/2013) Royals manager Ned Yost moved second baseman Chris Getz into the leadoff spot for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

"He's been playing well since he's been (back from DL)," Yost said, per The Kansas City Star. "And he's taking pitches. He's working the at-bat."

Getz is batting .364 (12 for 33) with a .417 on-base percentage in nine games since coming off the disabled list. He has two RBI, three walks, three stolen bases and five runs in that span.

(8/12/2013) Royals second baseman Chris Getz had a nice game Monday in a win over Miami. Getz was seeing his first action since late July after being activated off the DL earlier in the day.

Getz went 3 for 4 in the game with his 15th RBI of the season. He also scored and stole his ninth base for Kansas City. He is batting .223.

The 29-year-old Getz continues to be a light hitter for the Royals. This was his first multi-hit game since May 31, a long stretch of games despite the injury absence.
