B. Jones lands with Brewers


(1/6/2011) The Brewers signed OF Brandon Jones to a minor league deal on Wednesday, according to Baseball America. Jones last played in the major leagues with the Braves in 2009. He was traded from the Pirates to Detroit last August and batted .258 in 97 at-bats with Double-A Erie last season.

They called up hurler Brian Burres, selected RHP Brian Bass's contract and put Chris Jakubauskas on the 15-day disabled list.

(4/24/2009) The Atlanta Braves placed outfielder Garret Anderson on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a strained left thigh. Anderson had to leave an 11-1 win over Pittsburgh last Sunday with tightness in his thigh. He missed the next three games. The Braves called up outfielder Brandon Jones from Triple-A Gwinnett, where he was batting .308 in 14 games. He played in 41 games for the Braves last season, batting .267 with one home run and 17 RBI.

(4/23/2009) The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the Braves are delaying a decision on whether to disable Garret Anderson, hoping the off day Thursday will help his recovery. Anderson has been out of the lineup since Sunday in Pittsburgh when he injured his left quadriceps. If he doesn't improve, the Braves might put him on the disabled list and call up a Gwinnett outfielder such as Brandon Jones or the newly-acquired Brian Barton for the weekend series against the Reds.

Jones is making up for his poor Grapefruit League season last year when he hit just .211 in 19 games. "Last year, I put a lot of pressure on myself," Jones said. "This year, I just wanted to go out there and play like I always have, and I'm having a good spring so far." Jones had combined for 100 RBI and 19 homers in Double-A and Triple-A during 2007 but his poor spring forced him into a platoon role with Matt Diaz last year.
