by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4/10/2015) Braves outfielder Cameron Maybin has put a priority on remaining healthy, even if it means not getting to certain fly balls.

Maybin doesn't plan to run into walls or dive as much as in the past.

"Play smarter, not harder," he said, per the Journal-Constitution. "Do what you have to do to stay on the field."

"I’ve had clean eating, clean living, no alcohol, my body feels good,” he said. "It feels fresh. And then, being smart: The outfield wall’s undefeated."

Padres acquire Craig Kimbrel, Melvin Upton from Braves

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4/5/2015) The Padres and Braves have an agreement in place for a trade that would send closer Craig Kimbrel and outfielder Melvin Upton to San Diego for Cameron Maybin, Carlos Quentin, Matt Wisler, Jordan Paroubeck and the No. 41 overall pick in next year's draft, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. The teams later confirmed the report.

Kimbrel led the league in saves in 2014 with 47 and a 1.61 ERA in 61 2/3 innings pitched. Upton will join his brother, Justin, in San Diego. He hit .208 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI in 519 at-bats in 2014.

Padres' Cameron Maybin to hit leadoff in first spring game

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3/2/2015) Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin will hit leadoff in the team's first spring game, according to MLB.com.

Manager Bud Black basically confirmed the news, though he wouldn't make it official as he prefers to let the player know before the media. Maybin is the forgotten man in the team's outfield heading into camp. While he's proven he can play center field, the club is expected to go with Matt Kemp, Wil Myers and Justin Upton when the regular season starts.

Maybin, 27, hit .235/.290/.331 over 251 at-bats last season.

Wil Myers among the candidates to hit leadoff for Padres

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/27/2015) The Padres don't have a prototypical leadoff hitter on their 40-man roster, so manager Bud Black is already trying to pare down the potential candidates he does have at his disposal, per U-T San Diego.

Yangervis Solarte, Will Venable, Cameron Maybin and Wil Myers -- let’s start there,” Black said of the options at the top of his list.

However, of that list of players, Myers is the only one assured of playing every day. He has a career .324 on-base percentage.

Padres' Maybin: 'I feel like I'm the best option as a center fielder'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/23/2015) Cameron Maybin's tenure with the Padres has largely been disappointing. However, Maybin still feels he is the best option in center field, even though he is likely to begin the season as a backup outfielder following the offseason additions of Wil Myers, Justin Upton and Matt Kemp.

"For me, each day I come here, I feel like I'm the most athletic guy on the team," Maybin said, per U-T San Diego. "I'm healthy. My approach is this is an open competition. I feel like I'm the best option as a center fielder, so the only thing I can do is come into spring, work hard and prove it. I'm excited about doing that."

Manager Bud Black is fine with Maybin's comments and seems pleased the oft-injured outfielder is brimming with confidence.

"That's great," Black said. "Talking to Cam just early this morning, he's doing fine. He's in a great frame of mind. All players, when they come to spring training, they're ready to play, and Cam's no different. We're looking forward to getting our position players on the fields and watching our guys play and evaluating our players."
