Cameron Maybin to serve 25-game suspension

(7/23/2014) It was announced Wednesday that Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin was suspended 25 games for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

"I’m disappointed in Cameron’s violation of MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, but am pleased that he’s taking responsibility for his mistake," Padres president Mike Dee said. "The Joint Agreement was put into place to protect both the player and the game, and the Padres fully support it."

Maybin will immediately begin serving the suspension and won't be eligible to return until Aug. 20 at L.A. Dodgers.

"Cameron has accepted full responsibility for his violation and apologized to his teammates and coaches. We are all looking forward to his return," manager Bud Black said.


Cameron Maybin drives in two in win

(6/8/2014) Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin provided some rare run production Saturday, in a 4-3 win over the Nationals.

Maybin, who entered the game with just one RBI, drove in two this time, including the game-winner. He doubled home a run in the fourth inning, and then brought Chase Headley around the score with a walkoff single to win it.

Maybin is off to a solid start, despite having just three RBI in 32 games. He is hitting .300/.340/.440 in 100 at-bats.

Maybin struck in his first at-bat, hitting a solo home run on an 89 mph fastball from John Danks. It was Maybin's only hit of the game. He finished 1 for 4, with one run scored and one RBI. Maybin is hitting .307 in 88 at-bats.

Maybin reached base three times in the blowout win, and scored each time. He went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, while adding a walk. He is hitting .300/.338/.400 in 70 at-bats this season, while scoring 10 runs in 21 games.

Maybin has gotten off to a strong start, hitting .341 in 41 at-bats. He's hit all over the batting order thus far, seeing time in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh spots in the order. Maybin has not received a start in the eighth spot all year.

(4/12/2014) Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin began his minor-league rehab assignment Friday with Triple-A El Paso.

Maybin played the field for sixth innings and doubled in a run. He finished 1 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI in his first minor-league rehab game. Maybin has been sidelined since last June with a biceps injury.

"Right now, he's restarting his Spring Training," manager Bud Black said, per MLB.com. "He's in baseball shape. Now, we've got to get him in baseball-ready shape."

(3/23/2014) After a period of two-plus weeks of rest, Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin played catch for the first time Friday, according to MLB.com. Maybin is working his way back from a ruptured left biceps tendon which he suffered on March 2.

"He had the rest period and now he's starting to do some things in the weight room to gradually start building up that biceps," said manager Bud Black. "He's doing well. There's no timetable ... but the medical staff is happy with where he's at now."

(3/6/2014) Padres general manager Josh Byrnes told MLB.com on Thursday that outfielder Cameron Maybin won't need surgery, which would result in a four-to-six-week recovery.

Maybin ruptured his biceps tendon on a diving catch over the weekend. He would have needed two to three months of recovery had he opted for surgery.

"Our doctors saw his diagnostics and talked to Cam and decided [recovery] will be healing and the rehab route before we get him back to activity," Byrnes said. "But the strong consensus was no surgery."
