Trevor Plouffe not in Friday lineup for Twins

(7/25/2014) Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe is catching a break Friday against the visiting White Sox. Eduardo Nunez is set to man the position instead.

Plouffe has been steady but far from spectacular lately. He has one hit in six of his last seven games and owns a .243/.314/.409 stat line on the year.

(7/19/2014) Twins infielder Trevor Plouffe was the team's only batter to make an impact Friday, in a 6-2 loss to the Rays.

Plouffe had just one hit in the game, as he slugged a third-inning two-run home run post the team's first and only runs on the board. He finished the game 1 for 4 overall with a run scored and a strikeout.

Plouffe has seven home runs and 44 RBI on the season, while hitting .245/.317/.417 in 78 games.

(7/14/2014) Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe posted his second three-hit game since returning from the disabled list, in a 13-5 win over the Rockies in Colorado on Sunday.

Plouffe doubled in the opening frame, tripled in the fifth and recorded a single in the seventh inning. He fell a home run shy of a cycle and finished 3 for 5 with three runs scored. He owns a .245/.317/.409 slash line with six homers and 42 RBI in 298 at-bats.

(7/7/2014) Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe enjoyed his first big game Sunday since coming off the disabled list on June 30.

His first multi-hit game since June 8 was not enough to give his team a comeback victory over the Yankees, but it did sweeten his stat line to .245/.319/.410. Plouffe came within a triple of a cycle with a two-run homer in the eighth, as well as RBI double and single.

He will return with a stat line of .241/.320/.400 and 38 RBI in 245 at-bats.

(6/25/2014) Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe will join the team Thursday night and work out with the team in Texas over the weekend, MLB.com reports.

The news indicates that the Twins don't believe Plouffe needs a rehab assignment before returning from the disabled list early next week. Fellow injured infielder Eduardo Nunez is being sent on a rehab assignment Thursday, while Plouffe will fly to Texas to be with the team. He's expected to return from left rib inflammation early next week.

"I don't know if they're even going to need rehab," Gardenhire said. "When we get back from this trip, they should be both ready. Whether they're going to rehab or not, we're not decided yet."

Plouffe told reporters Friday he is already feeling better five days after being placed on the disabled list. He remains hopeful he can return from the disabled list as soon as the minimum 15 days pass.

Plouffe believes he's suffered a bruise or strain in the rib/oblique area. His availability Sunday will depend on how he feels after a night of rest, but he appears unlikely to play. The Twins are expected to make at least one roster move before Sunday's game after suffering multiple injuries Saturday.

Plouffe has posted three straight two-hit games and five multihit performances in his last eight games, with two of his three home runs this season during that stretch. He has hit .257/.337/.427 with 29 RBI in 171 at-bats.

Plouffe smacked a double in the first inning, but he was unable to come around and score. His two-run home run came in the ninth inning to bring his team within five, but it was too little, too late. Plouffe has hit .252/.339/.415 with two home runs and 24 RBI in 147 at-bats.

(4/30/2014) Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe has never enjoyed success trying to use the whole field. That is, until this year.

His career stat line hitting the ball to the opposite field is .204/.200/.313 compared to .387/.384/.735 pulling it, ESPN reports. But he has five singles, five doubles and a triple to center field this season, along with three doubles to right.

The result of his success using the entire field is that Plouffe ranked first among American League third basemen heading into Tuesday action in on-base percentage and batting average and fourth in slugging percentage.

(4/28/2014) Although Sunday's game between the Twins and Tigers was postponed, Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe was on track to play after leaving Saturday's game with a triceps injury. He is expected to be in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers.

"Trevor Plouffe came in feeling good," manager Ron Gardenhire said Sunday, per MLB.com. "He had a miracle patch the trainers put on him. So that's a good thing. I didn't think he'd be able to go (Sunday). I was happy … that [he was]. He came in feeling great. So we can move forward from there and not have to worry about Tuesday."

Plouffe, who was hit by a pitch in the injured area Saturday, said after the game that he was lucky to not be hit on the elbow. However, he did deal with stiffness before being removed. After going 1 for 2 with two RBI Saturday, Plouffe has hit .310/.419/.483 with one home run and 17 RBI in 87 at-bats.
