Jesus Guzman hits first homer in grand fashion

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(5/12/2013) Padres outfielder Jesus Guzman slugged a pinch-hit grand slam during the seventh inning to give San Diego a short-lived lead in an 8-7 loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday night. Guzman substituted for John Baker and tallied his first homer of the season in his 28th game to chase Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson.

Playing time has been minimal for Guzman recently as his last start came May 3 against Arizona. He is hitting just .236 as four of his six RBI this season came on the grand slam.

Jesus Guzman in lineup for Yonder Alonso

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(4/5/2013) Jesus Guzman will replace the injured Yonder Alonso in the Padres' lineup Friday against Colorado.

Alonso was injured in a collision with Mets outfielder Colin Cowgill on Thursday. The injury isn't expected to be serious, although it's unclear how long Alonso will be out. Guzman will likely take the reins at first base until he returns.

Guzman adds to HR total

(7/25/2012) Padres first baseman/outfielder Jesus Guzman had his best game of the season in Wednesday's series finale against the Giants. He went 3 for 4 with two home runs and three runs scored in the 6-3 win. He singled in the fourth inning before launching a two-run shot off Tim Lincecum the following frame. Then in the eighth, he led off the inning with a solo bomb. Guzman now has six long balls on the year.
