News: The Pirates signed C Jose Morales to a minor league deal with a spring training invite on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. Morales played in 22 games with the Rockies in 2011, batting .267.
Analysis: Morales will likely compete for the backup catcher's spot in Pittsburgh. Even if he wins a roster spot, Morales is not likely to see much playing time. He can be ignored in all drafts next spring.
News: The Rockies outrighted C Jose Morales to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Morales hit .267 in 22 games for Colorado this season, but he missed the last three-and-a-half months due to a broken right thumb that landed him on the disabled list.
Analysis: Morales may find work as a backup catcher next season. However, he probably won't play or produce enough to be worth attention in next year's Fantasy drafts.
News: The Denver Post reports Monday that injured Rockies C Jose Morales (thumb) is still experiencing soreness when swinging the bat left handed. Still, the report suggests that he is getting closer to going on a rehab assignment. Morales has been out since he fractured his right thumb in the middle of June.
Analysis: Morales still has no official timetable for a return, but he still seems a ways away from the rehab assignment. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on his progress, thoguh he has minimal Fantasy value behind starter Chris Iannetta.
News: Rockies C Jose Morales (thumb) should return to Colorado within the month of August, reports the Denver Post on Tuesday. Morales has been out since he fractured his right thumb in the middle of June. He still has no timetable for a rehab assignment.
Analysis: Morales may return to the bench for the Rockies when he's healthy, taking over for Eliezer Alfonzo, but he's not going to be starting over Chris Iannetta. Morales has just minimal Fantasy value, when healthy.
News: The Denver Post reports that Rockies catcher Jose Morales, who broke his right thumb last week, underwent surgery to combat the issue on Monday. He is on the 60-day disabled list as a result, but manager Jim Tracy said later in the day that Morales may have a chance to play again before the season is over. Im not sitting here today saying its season-ending," he said. "As a matter of fact, after talking to Dougie (trainer Keith Dugger), I dont think it is. Matt Pagnozzi was called up to take his roster spot in the short term, but Chris Iannetta remains the starter going forward.
Analysis: Morales broke his thumb on June 15 while catching Ubaldo Jimenez, and he says that this injury has happened to him many times before. Fantasy owners should be encouraged by the fact that Tracy believes in a solid recovery and that Morales apparently knows how to deal with the broken thumb. However, the recovery will take a while and Iannetta is a top-10 Fantasy scoring catcher to this point in the 2011 season, so Morales had minimal value even when healthy. He's had just 60 at-bats this year and is batting .267 with seven RBI.
News: Rockies catcher Jose Morales was placed on the 60-day disabled list on Friday with a broken right thumb, according to the Denver Post. He suffered the injured on Wednesday afternoon against the Padres. Thats one thing thats very frustrating, said Morales. I was catching Ubaldo and I was feeling a lot better at the plate. I was getting a little bit more playing time and we were playing better. Its not the first one and I dont want to say its going to be the last one. Ive been through a lot these last couple of years. Its just part of it, I guess. The Rockies called up Matt Pagnozzi from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take his roster spot.
Analysis: Morales was Chris Iannetta's backup, but didn't see a ton of action. He's had just 60 at-bats this year and is batting .267 with seven RBI. He didn't have much Fantasy value when he was healthy, so now that he's on the shelf Morales can be ignored in all formats moving forward.
News: Rockies C Jose Morales is not the most known offensive threat in the lineup, but in Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks he was the team's only source of runs. He hit a sacrifice fly to drove in a run in the second inning, and drove in Todd Helton with a single in the fourth frame. Morales finished the night 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI. The runs weren't enough to supply the win for Colorado, who lost 3-2 in extra innings.
Analysis: Morales had a third of his entire RBI production on the young season in Thursday's effort, but he hasn't has a ton of playing time thus far. He has just 26 at bats through the team's first 29 games, so Fantasy owners cannot rely on him in any capacity outside of deeper daily formats. Unless something drastic and unexpected happens, Morales should be left on the waiver wire moving forward.
News: Rockies C Jose Morales was scheduled to start Wednesday against the Cubs with starter Chris Iannetta getting a day off. But for the second time this season Morales had his start washed away due to rain. "It's definitely one of the hardest parts of baseball," Morales told MLB.com. "During rain delays you've got to stay focused. When the game gets rained out, it does stink, but I'll be ready for tomorrow, I guess. Nothing I can do about it."
Analysis: The bad news for Morales is that with Thursday's off-day it likely means Iannetta will be back in action on Friday. The Rockies are 5-1 on the days Morales starts, but the team is still committed to Iannetta. Morales has marginal Fantasy appeal as a backup catcher.
News: With Rockies C Chris Iannetta held out of the lineup with a back strain, Jose Morales earned the start behind the plate for Colorado during Saturday's 3-1 win over the Marlins. However, the 28-year-old has held hitless in three at-bats but did reach base via a walk in the sixth inning.
Analysis: Morales is currently the backup in Denver but could be in line to make a few starts with Iannetta sidelined with a back issue. Iannetta's injury is not thought to be serious, although the Rockies may give him a few days off in order to rest it. That means Morales could earn a few starts over the next few days. While he doesn't have a ton of power, Morales proved this spring he can swing the bat, so Fantasy owners in daily deeper NL-only formats may want to give him a look while he is getting at-bats.
News: Rockies C Jose Morales, in only his second start of the season, went 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Mets in the first game of their doubleheader.
Analysis: Morales is currently the backup in Denver behind Chris Iannetta, but if he keeps hitting like this he could steal some more starts from Iannetta, who is hitting a miserable .196 so far this season. For now, Morales isn't worth worrying about in Fantasy play, but he hit .400 this spring, and so should be on the radar of folks in deeper NL-only formats.
News: Rockies C Jose Morales was expected to get his first start of the season Sunday against the Diamondbacks before inclement weather postponed the game. Manager Jim Tracy told MLB.com that Morales brings versatility to the lineup. "He has a real feel for what's a strike and what's a ball," Tracy said. "He gives you very, very sound at-bats. There's a number of things you can do with Jose Morales."
Analysis: Morales hit .400 this spring, and since he is out of options the Rockies want to see what he can do before risking exposing him to waivers. Morales hit .311 a few years ago in 54 games with the Twins and was a decent hitter in the minors, but he is a backup to Chris Iannetta in Colorado and doesn't have a lot of home run power, so Morales is at best an NL-only Fantasy reserve.
News: The Denver Post reports that backup catcher Jose Morales made the team's final roster, thanks in part to his strong spring. He went 10-for-25 (.400) with seven RBI and six walks and will backup Chris Ianetta.
Analysis: Morales has a career .297 average with 14 RBI and 19 runs scored in 158 at-bats. With playing time an issue, he only holds value in the deepest of NL-only formats.
News: Rockies C Jose Morales has been competing to be the backup for Chris Iannetta this spring, and might have solidified his spot on the 25-man roster with his performance on Sunday against the Cubs. He went 2 for 2 with two doubles and three RBI in the 6-4 win. Morales is batting .391 this spring with five extra-base hits and seven RBI in 17 games. Ive had success and success gives you confidence, Morales told the Denver Post. It doesnt matter what situation or what inning or if they want me to pinch-hit. Its a battle and Im always confident and cocky at the plate. Ive got my swagger. Thats part of it. Morales is competing with Matt Pagnozzi for a spot on the roster.
Analysis: Morales has the bat to be a backup in the majors but his defense is still a work in progress. I definitely know Ive still got a lot of work to do behind the plate, but I feel real good, real positive, he said. The first couple of weeks it felt like going to a new school in high school and not knowing anybody. I tried to make a good first impression, but once that was out of the way and I started feeling comfortable with guys, it got a little bit easier. Morales has a career .297 average with 14 RBI and 19 runs scored in 158 at-bats. If he ends up as Iannetta's backup, he will hold value in the deepest of NL-only formats.
News: The Rockies acquired C Jose Morales from the Twins for minor league pitcher Paul Bargas on Thursday, according to the Twins' team website. Morales has appeared in 73 games for Minnesota over the last two season, and he made his debut in 2007. He went 7 for 36 (.194) last season.
Analysis: The Rockies had a void at backup catcher, but now Morales is the likely frontrunner to play behind Chris Iannetta on the depth chart. He will play sparingly, so he is only an option for owners in deep NL-only leagues.
News: Minnesota C Jose Morales started Monday against Cleveland with Joe Mauer possibly out for a few games with a knee injury. Morales should share time with Drew Butera while Mauer needs to miss time.
Analysis: Morales has only played in 10 games with the Twins this season entering Monday. Monday's start was just his fourth of the year. He entered the game hitting .188 with three RBI and five strikeouts over 16 at-bats. Morales has low-end Fantasy value and will have even less than that as soon as Mauer can return.
News: Minnesota catcher Jose Morales was recalled on Wednesday and replaced Jim Thome in the lineup. Thome was a late scratch, giving Morales a rare start.
Analysis: Morales has played in five games this season and has yet to record a hit. He will be a reserve player for the Twins down the stretch and may see a few extra starts at the DH spot. At this time he should be ignored in all formats, unless he earns a bigger role. He should be viewed as an option in the deepest of AL-only formats.
News: The Twins recalled shortstop Trevor Plouffe and catcher Jose Morales on Wednesday for bench depth down the stretch.
Analysis: Morales figures to be merely a reserve catcher for the Twins and the deepest of AL-only leagues down the stretch. Ignore him unless he gets hot and earns more than spot duty off the bench. With Joe Mauer healthy, it is highly unlikely.
News: MLB.com reports that the Twins are likely to call up catcher Jose Morales soon. "I definitely would like to have a third catcher here, at the first opportunity," manager Ron Gardenhir said on Saturday. "The rest we can hold off."
Analysis: Morales is hitting .269 for Triple-A Rochester with three homers and 25 RBI. As a third catcher, he would be looking at very limited playing time and is not a player we recommend adding in Fantasy leagues.
News: The Twins optioned C Jose Morales to Triple-A Rochester on Sunday. The move was made to clear a roster spot for infielder Nick Punto (hamstring), who will be activated from the DL prior to Minnesota's next game, which will be on Tuesday versus the White Sox.
Analysis: Morales had just five plate appearances with the Twins and no hits to show for it. He was the 25th man on the roster and had no Fantasy value. Especially now that he has been demoted, he can be ignored for Fantasy purposes.
News: The Twins recalled catcher Jose Morales from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday. He takes the roster spot of 2B Orlando Hudson (oblique), who was placed on the DL. The move gives the Twins three catchers, along with Joe Mauer and Drew Butera. Morales was batting .280 with two homers and 24 RBI at Rochester through Saturday.
Analysis: Morales is a decent hitter for average, but he will probably play very little. At best, he is a stopgap option for owners in the deepest of AL-only leagues. In all other cases, he can be ignored for Fantasy purposes.
News: The Twins have activated C Jose Morales (wrist, hip) off the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester. According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Morales will share catching duties with recently demoted Wilson Ramos. The Twins will continue to use Drew Butera as Joe Mauer's backup.
Analysis: Morales hit .311 (37 for 119) for the Twins as a backup last season, but surgery on his right wrist in January allowed Ramos and Butera to step into his role. Even while on the major league roster, his Fantasy appeal would have been limited.
News: According to the team's official website, Twins catcher Jose Morales had a slight setback in his return from offseason surgery on his right wrist. Morales, who recently caught nine innings during an extended spring training game, is battling a sore hip, according to manager Ron Gardenhire. It was an injury that Morales suffered while sliding.
Analysis: Morales does not project to have much Fantasy value this season with Drew Butera and Joe Mauer having the catching situation pretty much locked down. He will remain at best an AL-only Fantasy reserve, if he is ever activated to the major league roster.
News: The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Twins C Jose Morales (wrist surgery) will catch five innings Tuesday at extended spring training.
Analysis: When he's healthy, Morales will either back up Joe Mauer or be sent to the minors. He will remain at best an AL-only Fantasy reserve.
News: MLB.com reports Twins C Jose Morales (wrist) is playing in extended spring games, but he is only allowed to play at designated hitter for the time being. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Morales needs to prove he can throw out runners before returning to the majors.
Analysis: The Twins have no rush to get Morales back to the majors since Drew Butera is proving to be a capable backup to Joe Mauer. Fantasy owners shouldn't show a ton of concern either since Morales usually backs up the best catcher in baseball. Morales is nothing more than an AL-only Fantasy reserve when healthy.
News: Rookie Drew Butera will back up catcher Joe Mauer behind the plate indefinitely for the Twins. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Thursday that there is no rush to bring Jose Morales back after right wrist surgery. "We look at catch-and-throw guys for our backup catcher," Gardenhire said. "He can hit. We know that. He's still got to be able to do some of the other thing, catch and throw. He calls a good game, but he's got to be able to throw somebody out."
Analysis: Morales is a .327 hitter in his brief MLB career, but it's unfortunate for him that he sits behind one, if not the best catcher in baseball. Morales is nothing more than an AL-only Fantasy reserve when healthy.
News: The Twins officially placed closer Joe Nathan (right elbow surgery -- out for season) and catcher Jose Morales (recovery from right wrist surgery) on the 15-day DL on Wednesday.
Analysis: Morales is a solid backup backstop, but when healthy, he is backing up the best catcher in Fantasy, so his at-bats will be limited. Consider him nothing more than a low-end DL stashee for the deepest of AL-only leagues at this point.
News: The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Twins C Jose Morales (wrist) won't be ready for opening day. He is also dealing with a sore shoulder.
Analysis: Morales should return to being Joe Mauer's back up when he is healthy again and will remain just a handcuff for Mauer in deeper AL-only leagues.
News: The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Twins C Jose Morales will get the cast off his surgically repaired wrist in a week. He could be back hitting from the right side in two weeks, from the left side in four.
Analysis: Morales is expected to back up Joe Mauer again in 2010 and will have minimal Fantasy value outside of deeper AL-only leagues as a handcuff to the reigning AL MVP.
News: Twins C Jose Morales underwent surgery today on his right wrist and is expected to be out until mid-March. Minnesota GM Bill Smith says Morales will be ready for the regular season. In 54 games last year Morales hit .311 with zero home runs, seven RBI and 14 runs in 119 at bats.
Analysis: Morales is nothing more than a reserve for the Twins, and should be considered the same in only the deepest of AL-only Fantasy leagues. He will get sporadic at-bats down the stretch behind Joe Mauer and as a pinch hitter.
News: Twins C Jose Morales is scheduled to have surgery on his sprained right wrist tomorrow, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. His recovery is expected to take six to eight weeks. In 54 games last season he hit .311 with zero home runs, seven RBI and 14 runs in 119 at bats.
Analysis: Morales is nothing more than a reserve for the Twins, and should be considered the same in only the deepest of AL-only Fantasy leagues. He will get sporadic at-bats down the stretch behind Joe Mauer and as a pinch hitter.
News:Jose Morales had a pinch-hit single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday to give Minnesota a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Analysis: Morales is nothing more than a reserve for the Twins and the deepest of AL-only leagues. He will get sporadic at-bats down the stretch behind AL MVP front-runner Joe Mauer.
News: The Twins announced they will recall catcher Jose Morales before the game Saturday against Texas.
Analysis: Morales has hit over .300 in his prior stints in the majors. Since he'll clearly back up Joe Mauer, he doesn't matter outside of deeper AL-only leagues.
News: The Minnesota Twins recalled right-hander Kevin Mulvey and second baseman Alexi Casilla from Triple-A Rochester. Minnesota made the moves Friday before playing at Texas in the Twins' first game after the All-Star break. To make room on the roster, the Twins optioned third catcher Jose Morales and infielder Matt Tolbert to Rochester.
Analysis: Morales was only up with the club to help bolster the bench and shouldn't be owned in most Fantasy leagues. Leave him on the waiver wire.
News: The Twins have optioned C Jose Morales to Triple-A and have called up SP Kevin Mulvey.
Analysis: Mulvey will add some depth to the Minnesota bullpen, but could start at some point later this season. Mulvey, who came over in the Johan Santana trade, is 3-6 with a 3.93 in 17 Triple-A starts this season. Until he finds a starting spot in the Twin Cities however, he will just remain a low-end long-term keeper option. Continue to ignore Morales in all Fantasy formats.
News: With the team down to three position players on the bench, the Twins sent pitcher Anthony Swarzak to Triple-A Rochester after he threw seven innings in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Cubs and called up catcher Jose Morales.
Analysis: Morales is only up with the club to help bolster the bench and shouldn't be picked up outside of the deepest of AL-only formats.
News: Minnesota C Jose Morales went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in a 20-1 blowout of the White Sox. He increased his batting average to .358 on the season but was sent back down to Triple-A as Delmon Young is coming off the bereavement list.
Analysis: Morales has no chance of ever unseating Joe Mauer as the team's starting catcher in Minnesota and is not really anything more than organizational depth.
News: The Twins have recalled C Jose Morales from Triple-A to take the roster spot of OF Delmon Young (personal).
Analysis: Morales will only be up for seven days at most, and could be sent back on Monday. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats, as the third catcher in Minnesota.
News: The Twins sent catcher Jose Morales to the minor leagues Sunday.
Analysis: Morales was off to a decent start, but the return of Joe Mauer made him expendable. Consider him nothing more than organizational depth at this point and ignore him in all Fantasy leagues right now.
News: The Twins activated RP Jess Crain (shoulder) from the 15-day DL on Sunday, sending C Jose Morales down to the minors to make room.
Analysis: Crain wasn't pitching particularly well before this injury, so hopefully the rest will benefit him. He is only worth using in the deepest of AL-only Rotisserie formats that use middle men. Morales was the third catcher once Joe Mauer came back and was always a favorite to be demoted. Ignore him while he's in the minors.
News: Twins catcher Jose Morales went 4-for-4 Sunday in Cleveland for the first four-hit game of his career. He was getting a start in a day game following a night game.
Analysis: Despite this performance, Morales is not long for the big leagues at this point with Joe Mauer coming back from his injury soon. Leave him on waivers in most leagues.
News: Twins C Jose Morales went 2-for-3 with a double on Sunday in a win over the Angels. Morales hit an RBI ground out in the 2nd inning and scored a run. He's hitting .286 on the year.
Analysis: Morales has no home runs and Sunday marked his first RBI this season. He's filling in for Joe Mauer until he can return and should not be owned in Fantasy right now in anything but the deepest of AL-only Fantasy formats.
News: Minnesota Twins catcher Mike Redmond will miss at least one game because of a pulled groin. Redmond was out of Tuesday's lineup after hurting himself while running out a grounder on Monday night, and rookie Jose Morales was behind the plate for the game against Seattle.
Analysis: Redmond said he hoped to be able to play on Wednesday, but was waiting to see how he felt after the pregame workout. All-Star catcher Joe Mauer is in Florida, continuing to rehabilitate while the inflammation in his lower back subsides. Redmond said he's cognizant of the situation and will "absolutely 100 percent" try to play through the injury. It doesn't sound as though Redmond will miss much time, so Morales' stint behind the plate could be short. Morales is nothing more than a stopgap AL-only Fantasy option.
News:Mike Redmond injured his groin on Monday's opening day loss to the Mariners and with star Twins catcher Joe Mauer already injured, that could force Jose Morales into a starting role if Redmond misses time. Redmond is likely to miss at least Tuesday's game against the Mariners and that would have Morales as the starting catcher.
Analysis: Morales is only hanging around until Joe Mauer gets healthy, unless Redmond goes down for an extended period of time. Regardless, Morales only has very limited Fantasy value, even as the everyday catcher for the Twins.
News: MLB.com reports that Twins C Jose Morales will start the season as the backup to Mike Redmond.
Analysis: Morales is only hanging around until Joe Mauer gets healthy. Continue to ignore him in all formats.
News: Minnesota continues to look for catching help with Joe Mauer dealing with lower back pain. The Twins played the Marlins on Saturday and Drew Butera got the start. He went 0-for-2 with a walk. He caught four shutout innings from Kevin Slowey. Butera is in competition with Jose Morales and Wilson Ramos for the backup spot behind Mike Redmond for as long as Mauer needs to be out. "I thought he did great," Slowey said. "He really knows how to call an entire game. We were on the same page. I think he does a good job out there."
Analysis: Ramos is batting .308 this spring. He hit 13 homers for Class A Fort Myers last season and is considered a rising star, but neither he nor any of the others have close to the ability that the two-time AL batting champion Mauer does. Mauer's return would effectively end any of the other's Fantasy seasons anyway. Catcher is a very thin spot in Fantasy but you probably don't need to worry about Ramos, Butera or Morales.

He caught four shutout innings from Kevin Slowey. Butera is in competition with Jose Morales and Wilson Ramos for the backup spot behind Mike Redmond for as long as Mauer needs to be out.

News: The Twins invited RP Armando Gabino, RP Jose Mijares, C Jose Morales and OF/1B David Winfree to spring training.
Analysis: These players are nothing more than organizational depth at this point in their careers. Ignore them on Draft Day this spring.
News:Jose Morales (ankle) was 0-for-2 against the Reds in a spring training game Thursday.
Analysis: Morales injured his ankle during his MLB debut on Aug. 8. He went on the DL shortly after. If Morales makes the squad out of spring training, he will be nothing more than a reserve to Joe Mauer. That makes him nothing more than a No. 2 catcher in AL-only Fantasy leagues at best.
News: The Twins reinstated SP Francisco Liriano, RP Jesse Crain, catcher Jose Morales from the 60-day disabled list on Thursday and reliever Dennys Reyes from the 15-day DL.
Analysis: Morales injured his ankle during his MLB debut on Aug. 8. He went on the DL shortly after. If Morales makes the squad out of spring training, he will be nothing more than a reserve to Joe Mauer. That makes him nothing more than a No. 2 catcher in AL-only Fantasy leagues.
News: The Minnesota Twins purchased the contract of catcher Matthew LeCroy from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday and placed catcher Jose Morales on the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster.
Analysis: Morales sprained his left ankle in the fifth inning against the White Sox after going 3-for-3 in his major league debut. Tough break for the youngster. Cut him in all Fantasy formats.
News: Minnesota Twins backup catcher Jose Morales left Saturday's game against the White Sox after slipping at second base in the fifth inning. He was advancing to second after Jason Tyner put down a bunt single. He lost his footing and injured his left ankle. He was helped off the field by two Minnesota trainers.
Analysis: Morales had his contract purchased from Triple-A Rochester on Friday and made his first major league start Saturday. He was 3-for-3 and collected his first major league hit in the second inning. Keep him reserved in all leagues as he's just a backup anyway.
News: The Twins purchased the contract of C Jose Morales from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday.
Analysis: The Twins need catcher options with Joe Mauer (hamstring) and Mike Redmond (finger) banged up right now. Morales, though, should be nothing more than a reserve catcher for the Twins and the deepest of AL-only leagues at this point.
News: The Twins optioned RHP Julio DePaula, LHP Errol Simonitsch and LHP Ricky Barrett to Triple-A Rochester. The optioned LHP Alexander Smit to Class A Ft. Myers and RHP Oswaldo Sosa and LHP Jose Mijares to Double-A New Britain and reassigned RHP Tristan Crawford, RHP Brad Voyles, C Jeff Christy, C Korey Feiner, C Jose Morales and SS Gil Velazquez to minor-league camp.
Analysis: None of these players should be considered even in the deepest of Fantasy leagues at this point.
News: The Twins have invited the following players to spring training: 3B Glenn Williams, INF Tommy Watkins, SS Gil Velazquez, OF Josh Rabe, C Jose Morales, C Brad King, C Korey Feiner, C Jeff Christy, RP Mike Venafro, P Jason Miller, P Jeremy Cummings, P Tristan Crawford, P Randy Choate and P Carmen Cali.
Analysis: None of these players will make a significant enough of an impact even in the deepest of AL-only leagues to be worth considering at this point. Ignore them. Rabe has a chance to help as a reserve outfielder down the road, though.
