Pirates cut eight from big-league camp

(3/21/2014) The Pirates optioned pitcher Phil Irwin and infielders Chris McGuiness and Brent Morel to Triple-A Indianapolis Friday.

The team also reassigned infielder Chase d'Arnaud and pitchers Jake Brigham, Cody Eppley, Josh Kinney and Yao-Hsun Yang to minor-league camp.

(6/26/2013) Mariners reliever Josh Kinney pitched a scoreless inning in relief on Tuesday with Triple-A Tacoma, MLB.com reports. He is getting closer to returning to the majors after dealing with a rib injury since the spring. 

Kinney has given up three earned runs over 8 1/3 innings over eight appearances with Tacoma over the last two weeks.

That said, manager Eric Wedge said Kinney still needs more time. Wedge said this is "kind of like spring training for him."

Kinney struck out one and pitched a perfect inning for the Rainiers. He has been sidelined all season with a rib injury. The Mariners have not released any details on how long he'll last on rehab.

Kinney will throw another bullpen session Thursday and a simulated game Saturday. He will then go out on a minor league rehab assignment. He was eligible to come off the DL May 30.
