News: MLB.com reports that the Phillies re-assigned 16 players to minor league camp on Friday. Among the players re-assigned were: right-handers Brian Bass, Eddie Bonine, Andrew Carpenter and Michael Schwimer; left-hander Ryan Feierabend; catcher Joel Naughton; infielders Tagg Bozied and Robb Quinlan; and outfielder Matt Miller.
Analysis: Feierabend hasn't pitched in the majors since 2008 and has not been lighting it up in the minors since then. Injuries have derailed his career and he would really have to open some eyes down on the farm to make it back to the majors. Continue to ignore the 25-year-old in all Fantasy formats going forward.
News: The Mariners sent pitcher Ryan Feierabend (elbow) to the minor leagues Wednesday.
Analysis: Feierabend once has potential to be a regular starter for the Mariners, but injuries have derailed him. Consider him nothing more than organizational depth at this point in his career and ignore him in all Fantasy leagues on Draft Day.
News: Mariners SP Ryan Feierabend, recovering from Tommy John surgery a year ago, will get a long look in spring training, according to The Sports Xchange. It's been 11 months since the surgery, and the club anticipates that he'll be able to throw without restrictions. He's already throwing bullpen sessions.
Analysis: Feierabend was 1-4 with a 7.71 ERA in eight starts for Seattle in 2008. He did not pitch in 2009 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March. Consider him nothing more than organizational depth at this point if healthy. Ignore him in all Fantasy leagues on Draft Day.
News: The Mariners placed SP Ryan Feierabend on the 60-day disabled list Sunday. He had Tommy John surgery and will likely miss the rest of the season.
Analysis: The 23-year-old Feierabend had been a candidate for a long relief role this season, but he never felt fully healthy after he was scratched from his final scheduled start of 2008. Feierabend was 1-4 with a 7.71 ERA in eight starts for Seattle last year. He has pitched in 25 games for the Mariners over the past three seasons. Ignore him in all leagues in 2009 and consider him organizational depth when he can return in spring 2010.
News: From the The Sports Xchange:Ryan Feierabend had a choice to make at the end of the 2008 season. He could go ahead and have surgery on his left elbow, or he could try to see if rest and rehab would fix the problem. It didn't, so March 4, Feierabend's season ended before it started when he had Tommy John surgery. "I've been talking to a lot of guys who have had this done," Feierabend said. "They say the rehab is long and grueling." The Mariner training staff is already starting him, very lightly, on range-of-motion exercises. He'll be adding to those gradually over the coming weeks and months, with an idea that perhaps he will be healthy enough to compete for a job next spring.

News: Mariners SP Ryan Feierabend had Tommy John surgery on his left elbow Wednesday. He will miss all of the 2009 season and possibly part of the 2010 season.
Analysis: Feierabend went 1-4 with a 7.71 ERA in eight games with the Mariners in 2008. He has pitched in 25 games for the Mariners over the past three seasons. Ignore him in all leagues in 2009 and consider him organizational depth when he can return.
News: Mariners left-hander Ryan Feierabend might need season-ending surgery on his injured pitching elbow. He tried rehabilitation all winter at the team's spring training headquarters. Then, after about 20 pitches in the bullpen Sunday, he heard a pop in his elbow while throwing a slider. An MRI exam Monday showed a partial ligament tear. Feierabend plans to leave camp Tuesday for Los Angeles to see Dr. Lewis Yocum, and the operation would be Wednesday. "I'm going with the intention of possibly having Tommy John," Feierabend said, referring to the ligament replacement procedure that generally requires at least a year of recovery time. "If there's any type of tear in it, then I will probably have the surgery because I've tried to rehab it already," he added. "This year is pretty much a wash for me. We'll just nip it in the bud, so to speak, now and do it all over again next year in Seattle, in the sense of trying to make the team again."

News: Mariners SP Ryan Feierabend needs elbow surgery after ligament damage was discovered following an MRI. "It showed something," manager Don Wakamatsu said. "Not a total tear or anything like that but it's going to be a while."
Analysis: Feierabend had an outside shot of making the M's rotation in 2009, but after his less-than-average 2008, he wasn't likely to be drafted in anything but the deepest of AL-only leagues. He can now be ignored completely.
News: Seattle will start RHP R.A. Dickey in Sunday's season finale against the Athletics. LHP Ryan Feierabend was scheduled to start, but he has a tender shoulder.
Analysis: Feierabend finished with a 7.71 ERA this season, but he looked solid at times and has decent upside. Think of him as a sleeper for AL-only leagues entering 2009. Dickey is just an occasional spot starter and never deserves a roster spot in Fantasy.
News: Seattle SP Ryan Feierabend did not pitch well on Tuesday against the Angels but his teammates bailed him out and he finished with just a no decision. He allowed five runs on seven hits and lasted just 3 2/3 innings. He walked three and had three K's. He allowed two Angels' homers. His ERA is 7.71.
Analysis: Feierabend has been mixing in some nice starts in between his garbage ones lately, but he's just too inconsistent and plays for too poor of a team to be worth using in Fantasy play right now. He gets one more start this season and that comes Sunday against Oakland.
News: Mariners SP Ryan Feierabend (1-4) allowed eight runs on eight hits over 3 1/3 innings Thursday in a 12-0 loss to the Royals. He struck out two and walked three.
Analysis: Feierabend has allowed 31 hits over his last four starts, during which he is 1-3. He has been mixing in some nice starts in between his garbage ones lately, but he's just too inconsistent and plays for too poor of a team to be worth using in Fantasy play right now. In Fantasy Week 26 (Sept. 22-28), he will get two starts against the Angels and A's.
News: Mariners SP Ryan Feierabend, moved up from Wednesday to start Sunday against the Yankees in place of the injured Carlos Silva (back), had the best start of his five this season. He allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings, walking three and striking out four. He also picked up his first victory.
Analysis: Feierabend has gone seven innings and allowed two runs or less in two of his last three starts. He is beginning to show his upside and is worth a flier in AL-only leagues even though he pitches for lowly Mariners. His next start is scheduled for Friday at the Angels.
News: Seattle starter Ryan Feierabend (0-2) gave up five runs and 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings on Tuesday against Texas and earned the loss. "Ryan threw the ball pretty good," Mariners manager Jim Riggleman said. "It's a tough lineup and he battled and did a good job. He made a lot of good pitches and kept us in the game. He probably doesn't feel it was his best game but he gave his team a chance to win."
Analysis: Feierabend has pitched fairly well for a terrible team of late and because of that has just two losses to show for his efforts. There are more where that came from. That's why we don't recommend starting him. He next pitches on Sept. 11 at the Los Angeles Angels.
News: Mariners SP Ryan Feierabend held the Twins to three runs on eight hits Wednesday and left after seven innings with a 4-3 lead. He wouldn't hold on for the win as the Seattle bullpen allowed Minnesota to rally for a 6-5 win. Feierabend walked two and struck out four.
Analysis: After allowing six runs in his first start, ironically against Minnesota on Aug. 17, Feierabend has allowed just four runs in his last two outings and pitched well enough to win both. He continues to be a band-aid option for the Mariners and nothing more than an AL-only Fantasy SP. The team has not announced his next start.
News: Mariners rookie SP Ryan Feierabend, making his second major-league start, pitched a halfway decent ballgame Friday against the Athletics. He allowed one run on five hits in five innings, recording five strikeouts. In his first start, six earned runs on 10 hits in three innings.
Analysis: Feierabend had a quite a turnaround, but Fantasy owners in AL-only leagues would like to see him go more than five innings before they make any kind of investment in him. Pitching for the lowly Mariners, he'll struggle enough for wins as it is. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Twins.
News: Seattle SP Ryan Feierabend could barely finish the third inning against the Twins on Sunday in his first start of the season. After going 7-1 with a 2.04 ERA in 13 starts for Triple-A Tacoma, Feierabend allowed 10 hits, six runs and one walk. Seattle's third-round pick in the 2003 draft replaced Carlos Silva in the rotation.
Analysis: Feierabend may still prove to be a successful major league pitcher, but this year, on this terrible team, he's nothing but an AL-only guy. He'll probably continue to pitch in Silva's spot and that makes his next scheduled start come Friday against Oakland. We don't recommend starting him.
News: The Seattle Mariners recalled left-hander Ryan Feierabend from Triple-A Tacoma to make Sunday's start against the Minnesota Twins. Seattle placed right-hander Carlos Silva on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with tendinitis in his right elbow to make room on the roster. Feierabend has pitched with the Mariners in each of the past two seasons. He was 1-7 with a 6.92 ERA in 17 games, 11 of them starts.
Analysis: The 22-year-old Feierabend was 7-1 with a 2.04 ERA in 13 starts with Tacoma. He was pulled from his last start Wednesday after 53 pitches so he could pitch Sunday. He might have found himself, so consider him a sleeper in deeper AL-only and long-term keeper leagues at this point.
News: The Seattle Times reports that Mariners SP Ryan Feierabend will likely be called up to make a start Sunday at Minnesota. R.A. Dickey was initially expected to start the game, but manager Jim Riggleman said, "We're just going to look at other options." Feierabend was pulled early from his Triple-A start Wednesday.
Analysis: Feierabend is 7-2 with a 2.49 ERA in 17 minor league starts this season and is 7-1 with a 2.04 ERA since being promoted to Triple-A. Those kind of numbers lead us to believe Feierabend could be a decent low-end AL-only option if he can retain his spot in the rotation. Take a flier on him if you have the room.
News: The Mariners have optioned SP Ryan Feierabend to Triple-A, according to the Seattle Times.
Analysis: After the acquisition of Eric Bedard, their wasn't going to be a spot for Feierabend in the Mariners rotation. He could be back up at some point this season, but continue to ignore him in all Fantasy leagues for the time being.
News: The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that manager John McLaren said a handful of players are battling for George Sherrill's old setup man job in front of closer J.J. Putz. Eric O'Flaherty, Cesar Jimenez, Jake Woods, Ryan Rowland-Smith and Ryan Feierabend are among the competitors. "These guys are competing," McLaren said. "We've got some guys who know that position's open. You can see the intensity starting to pick up between those guys. I don't have a timeframe for myself. It's not something like the starting rotation where we felt we had to address. This is something that's going to work its way through as we go through spring training."
Analysis: Outside of picking up a few save opportunities, the winner of this job will hold little value outside of AL-only formats.
News: The trade for Erik Bedard means there won't be a No. 5 rotation spot open for Brandon Morrow, Horacio Ramirez, Ryan Feierabend or Chad Seung Baek this spring. Felix Hernandez, Miguel Batista, Jarrod Washburn and Carlos Silva likely have rotation spots locked up as high-paid veterans.
Analysis: Morrow is an elite pitching prospect who served a setup role last year and was going to be a candidate to start this season. He likely won't now. Consider him a setup man worth having, though, especially in long-term keeper leagues. Ramirez, Feierabend and Baek are nothing more than stopgap AL-only starters now if injuries set in. Hernandez is a burgeoning Fantasy superstar, while Batista, Washburn and Silva are options for deeper leagues when getting favorable matchups or double starts.
News: Seattle starter Ryan Feierabend (1-6) gave up six earned runs on eight hits at Cleveland Wednesday. He picked up his sixth loss of the season. "Ryan has had problems early lately getting his change up down. That's his bread-and-butter," Seattle manager John McLaren said. "When you make mistakes with your bread-and-butter you have problems."
Analysis: Feierabend is a good looking young pitcher, but he is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only and long-term-keeper Fantasy leagues at this point.
News: SP Ryan Feierabend will start one of the Mariners' two games in a doubleheader against the Indians Wednesday. Jarrod Washburn will start the other.
Analysis: Feierabend is a good looking young pitcher, but he is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only and long-term-keeper Fantasy leagues at this point.
News: Ryan Feierabend allowed five earned runs and eight hits in just three innings in Thursday's start at L.A. Angels to take his fifth loss of the season.
Analysis: Feierabend is a good looking young pitcher, but he is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only Fantasy leagues at this point. He is a decent looking option in long-term keeper formats. He'll get another start on Tuesday against the Indians to close out his season.
News: LHP Ryan Feierabend will make two starts over the final 10 days of the season. He was already penciled in as Thursday's starter at the Los Angeles Angels. Manager John McLaren announced Feierabend will also pitch against the Indians, most likely in the doubleheader.
Analysis: Feierabend will pitch Tuesday but he doesn't figure to be a two-start pitcher in Fantasy Week 26 (Sept. 24-30) at this point. Track his news through the weekend, but he should be nothing more than a high-risk option for the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: Manager John McLaren picked LHP Ryan Feierabend as his starter for Thursday's game in Anaheim.
Analysis: Feierabend is 1-4 with a 6.80 ERA and has started seven games. But he is nothing more than a high-risk option for AL-only leagues against a tough Angels team.
News: The Mariners decided to pull Horacio Ramirez from the starting rotation Sunday, just one day after he lasted only four batters in a 6-2 loss to Tampa Bay. "Maybe he needs to take a step back and take a deep breath," Seattle manager John McLaren said before Sunday's game against the Devil Rays. "The Yankees did it with (Mike) Mussina and we're doing it with him. We'll let somebody else start for one game." Ramirez gave up two singles, a walk and a run-scoring single before McLaren removed him. Ryan Feierabend and Jorge Campillo are among the candidates to replace Ramirez in the rotation.
Analysis: Feierabend is 1-4 with a 6.40 ERA and has started seven games. Campillo is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA in just eight innings since being recalled from Triple A Tacoma on Sept. 7. "Those are two possibilities," McLaren said. "I'm not exactly sure who we're going to put in." Feierbend is the more likely option, but he is nothing more than a high-risk option for the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: Manager John McLaren walked briskly to the mound, stared past Ramirez into the bullpen and summoned rookie Ryan Feierabend after the veteran starter allowed five earned runs in just 1 2/3 innings on Monday against the Athletics. McLaren extended his left arm to get the ball from Ramirez without saying a word and without making eye contact. Ramirez trudged off to loud boos. "I was walking off the mound. I wasn't noticing," a frustrated Ramirez said of McLaren's steely glare.
Analysis: Feierabend pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out five. McLaren hinted he may have earned a start -- perhaps for Ramirez. Ramirez's ERA climbed to 6.80 by allowing at least five runs for the seventh time in 19 starts. He has won just once in the past 30 days, a span of six starts. His wins are largely because his hitters were giving him an average of 7.19 runs per start -- the fourth-best support in the AL -- until they met Joe Blanton on Monday. Feierabend might be worth a look in deeper AL-only Fantasy leagues down the stretch if he officially is plugged into the rotation.
News: The Mariners called up pitcher Ryan Feierabend from the minors.
Analysis: Feierabend might be a candidate for spot starts down the stretch, but he is nothing more than a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of leagues that use true middle men at this point.
News: The Mariners will begin calling up players from Triple-A Tacoma when rosters can be expanded on Sept. 1. A few will be called up that day with the rest joining the team when Tacoma's season ends Monday. C Jeff Clement, their No. 1 draft pick in 2005, is one of the candidates. Other candidates are LHPs Ryan Feierabend, Jake Woods and John Parrish and OFs Jeremy Reed and Michael Morse.
Analysis: Feierabend is 4-2 with a 4.18 ERA in his past 10 starts (60 1/3 innings). He should see a start or two and is talented enough to pick up in AL-only formats.
News: Ryan Feierabend (1-4) started the first game of a doubleheader at Texas on Tuesday and then was sent back to Triple-A Tacoma after being recalled earlier in the day to make the spot start. "They didn't tell me when I would be sent down, but I knew this would only be one start," said Feierabend, a 21-year-old left-hander. "A couple of pitches were not the greatest. The triple by Byrd was a changeup that was supposed to be inside. But having an outing like this before going down was great."
Analysis: Feierabend did a pretty decent job in the game, allowing just two earned runs and six hits in five innings before turning it over to reliever Brandon Morrow. He might be back at some point later in the season, but only consider him in the deepest of AL-only Fantasy leagues or long-term keeper formats. Mark Lowe (elbow) was activated from the 60-day disabled list to take his spot.
News: The Mariners optioned lefty reliever Ryan Rowland-Smith to Triple-A Tacoma and recalled lefty starter Ryan Feierabend from Tacoma. Feierabend will start in the Mariners' doubleheader.
Analysis: Feierabend will likely be sent back to the minors after the start, so consider him nothing more than a low-end flier in the deepest of AL-only or long-term keeper leagues at this point.
News:The Sports Xchange notes: LHP Ryan Feierabend is likely to be the pitcher called up to start one of the two games of Tuesday's doubleheader in Texas.
Analysis: Feierabend has made a couple of starts at Triple-A Tacoma since being sent down. The doubleheader is the makeup of an April rainout. He is 2-3 with a 4.43 ERA in 13 starts at Tacoma. He is nothing more than a risky AL-only Fantasy option when in the majors.
News: The Seattle Mariners recalled pitcher Jake Woods from Triple-A Tacoma and sent down pitcher Ryan Feierabend on Saturday.
Analysis: Feierabend, also a lefty, went 1-3 with a 9.31 ERA in seven big league games, including 6 starts. Over his last four starts, he was 0-2 with a 15.23 ERA. He is nothing more than a risky AL-only Fantasy option when in the majors.
News: Mariners SP Ryan Feierabend lasted just four innings Sunday against the A's and did not factor into the decision. He allowed five hits, four walks and three runs, while recording one strikeout. He did lower his ERA to 9.31.
Analysis: Feierabend has made more bad starts than good ones while in the Mariners rotation and is nothing more than a risky AL-only Fantasy option at this time. He won't make another start until Fantasy Week 16 (July 16-22).
News: Ryan Feierabend (1-3) allowed 10 runs in just 1 1/3 innings in his seventh major league start Tuesday at Kansas City. The 21-year-old left-hander's ERA jumped from 6.46 to 9.72 after allowing eight hits, including two home runs. He also had two walks and hit a batter.
Analysis: In his fifth start on June 22, he allowed nine runs in 2 2/3 innings of a 16-1 loss to Cincinnati. Clearly, he isn't a reliable Fantasy pitcher at this stage in his career.
News: Seattle LHP Horacio Ramirez (shoulder) made his first rehab start Saturday at Triple-A Tacoma, pitching four innings and giving up six hits and six runs against Salt Lake. He will make three rehab starts before potentially rejoining the Mariners rotation and has been on the DL since May 25 because of left shoulder tendinitis. He will 85 pitches in the second start and 100 in the third. His final rehab start is scheduled for July 10. Ryan Feierabend will likely lose his rotation spot after the All-Star break.
Analysis: Feierabend is nothing more than a deeper AL-only or long-term keeper option at this point. It is likely he loses his rotation spot once Ramirez is healthy. Feierabend could be making his last starts for owners in Fantasy Week 14 (July 1-8).
News: Mariners SP Ryan Feierabend rebounded from a poor start Friday against the Reds with a solid outing Wednesday against the Red Sox. He pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and two walks. He struck out three. A big improvement from his outing against the Reds when he allowed nine earned runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Analysis: Feierabend might only be a temporary option for the Mariners if he pitches more like he did Friday than Wednesday. But at least he had a positive outing, so he will remain in the rotation for the time being. He is just a risky AL-only Fantasy option at this time. His next scheduled start is for Tuesday against the Royals. He is line to be a two-start pitcher for Fantasy Week 14 (July 2-8).
News: Ryan Feierabend (1-2) struggled against Cincinnati Friday after pitching well in his first two starts. The 21-year-old gave up nine runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings, walking five. He threw 41 pitches in the first inning.
Analysis: Feireabend is scheduled to start against Boston on Wednesday, which is not a great matchup for him. Only consider the rookie in larger AL-only formats.
News: Manager Mike Hargrove is going to start rookie Ryan Feierabend, the owner of a June 3 win, on Friday against Cincinnati instead of Cha Seung Baek.
Analysis: That's a tough draw for the rookie Feierabend, as he draws Cincinnati ace Aaron Harang. Both pitchers are only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only Fantasy leagues at this point, although Feierabend is also worth stashing away in long-term keeper formats.
News: LHP Ryan Feierabend was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. He replaced LHP Jake Woods, who was optioned to Tacoma after Thursday's game in Chicago. "We'll use him in a long role some and then work him into later roles," manager Mike Hargrove said Friday night. "He'll be like a lot of our guys, just kind of a floater going back and forth to different roles."
Analysis: Feierabend is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only Fantasy leagues. He made two starts for Seattle before he was optioned back to Tacoma to clear a spot in the rotation for Jeff Weaver's return from the disabled list. Feierabend was 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA.
News: The Seattle Mariners recalled left-hander Ryan Feierabend from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, less than two weeks after he earned his first major league victory. Left-handed reliever Jake Woods was sent back to Tacoma to make room for Feierabend.
Analysis: Feierabend is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only Fantasy leagues. It is uncertain if he'll make spot starts or if he'll work in middle relief. Feierabend, 21, made two starts for Seattle before he was optioned back to Tacoma to clear a spot in the rotation for Jeff Weaver's return from the disabled list. Feierabend was 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA.
News: LHP Jake Woods was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma after the Mariners lost Thursday's series-finale 5-4 at Wrigley Field. LHP Ryan Feierabend flew into Chicago before the game and is expected to be activated before the Mariners begin a three-game set in Houston on Friday.
Analysis: Feierabend is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only Fantasy leagues. It is uncertain if he'll make spot starts or if he'll work in middle relief.
News: The Seattle Mariners activated Chris Reitsma (inflamed right elbow) from the 15-day disabled list on Monday and then optioned Ryan Feierabend to Triple-A Tacoma to make room.
Analysis: Feierabend was no longer needed with Jeff Weaver (shoulder) expected to make his return to the rotataion. Some might argue that the rookie deserves a spot more, but it is a numbers game at this point and the M's don't want to lose the salary. Feierabend will be back shortly whenever the Mariners need a starter.
News: Ryan Feierabend earned his first career win in Sunday's game against the Rangers. Feierabend, replacing the injured Horacio Ramirez in the rotation, allowed two home runs in the first four innings and trailed 4-1. But after Jose Lopez doubled, the 21-year-old left-hander allowed just one hit over his final four innings. "I said, 'Don't worry about what the future holds,'" Feierabend said. "I'd be happy if I stayed up here ... but if I go down, I'll just work on improving and coming back up."
Analysis: Feierabend is likely headed back to Triple-A Tacoma with Jeff Weaver (shoulder) likely to be plugged back into the rotation. He is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only Fantasy leagues and long-term keeper formats.
News: Ryan Feierabend (0-1) made his season debut for Seattle, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out three in his third big league start and first since Sept. 29, 2006. He was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to fill in for fellow left-hander Horacio Ramirez, who is sidelined indefinitely because of shoulder tendinitis. "Ryan pitched well, but we just couldn't generate any offense tonight after the first inning," manager Mike Hargrove said. "He changed speeds well. He threw one bad pitch, and that was to (Shea) Hillenbrand for the two-run homer. But he kept us in the game and gave us a chance to win."
Analysis: The Mariners apparently want Jeff Weaver to hold off on his return, so Feierabend could get another start this weekend. He's nothing more than a high-risk starter option for the deepest of AL-only or long-term keeper leagues at this point.
News: The Mariners recalled LHP Ryan Feierabend (pronounced Fire-bend) from Triple-A Tacoma and optioned RHP Jon Huber to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. He is making the start Tuesday night vs. Ervin Santana and the Angels in Anaheim.
Analysis: Feierabend will be the Mariners' No. 5 starter until Jeff Weaver can return from the DL, perhaps this weekend. Feierabend has long-term potential, but he is nothing more than a stopgap starter for the Mariners and the deepest of AL-only leagues. Feierabend is 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA, but he is allowing opposing hitters a .320 batting average. Uh, that's not good.
News: Ryan Feierabend might be an option to spot start for the Mariners on Tuesday.
Analysis: Feierabend will likely get just one start, because Jeff Weaver could return over the weekend in Fantasy Week 9 (May 28-June 3). A potential two-start week might be enough to take a flier on Feierabend is deeper AL-only leagues, though. He's high risk regardless.
News: Tuesday will be Jeff Weaver's fourth attempt at a debut with the Mariners after his expected starts Saturday, Sunday and Monday were all thwarted by the weather. Felix Hernandez, Jarrod Washburn, Miguel Batista and Horacio Ramirez will follow in the rotation. The snow out means a No. 6 starter won't be needed this week. Ryan Feierabend, Cha Seung Baek and Brandon Morrow could have been candidates for a spot start.
Analysis: Hernandez loses his two-start week, while Weaver gets to keep his. Hernandez is a must-start in all leagues anyway. Weaver, Washburn, Batista and Ramirez are far more risky starters in most Fantasy leagues. Only use them when the matchups are right in mixed leagues. Those No. 6 starter options for the M's will be needed later in the year, perhaps, but they can be ignored right now.
News: MLB.com notes that Ryan Feierabend was knocked around Monday in a split-squad game, giving up eight runs, including three homers, in two innings against the Cubs in a spring training game.
Analysis: Feierabend had not allowed an earned run over seven innings this spring before this outing and he was posturing for a rotation spot. The Mariners will likely want to season him more in the minors, but watch for a return in the early part of the summer.
News: Seattle optioned left-hander Ryan Feierabend to Tacoma, and sent right-hander Renee Cortez to its minor-league camp.
Analysis: Feierabend could impact deeper AL-only leagues sometime this season as a potential stopgap starting pitcher, but Cortez is nothing more than a low-end middle reliever and can be ignored at this point.
News: The Mariners agreed to one-year contracts with RHPs Cha Seung Baek, Jon Huber, Sean White, LHPs Ryan Feierabend, Cesar Jimenez, Ryan Rowland-Smith, INF Michael Garciaparra, OFs Wladimir Balentien, Adam Jones and Michael Wilson.
Analysis: Baek and Feierabend are options for the Mariners rotation during the season, making them potential contributors in AL-only leagues. The other pitchers would be nothing more than middle relievers for the deepest of AL-only leagues that use true middle men. Balentien and Jones are powerful prospects worth stashing in leagues that allow minor-leagues, while Garciaparra and Wilson are more low-end minor-leaguers.
News: Seattle has Felix Hernandez, Jarrod Washburn, Miguel Batista, Jeff Weaver and Horacio Ramirez in its rotation. Before appealing to Weaver last week, it was faced with choosing a fifth starter between Cha-Seung Baek, a Triple-A call-up whose season ended last September due to elbow tendinitis, converted reliever Jake Woods and Ryan Feierabend, a veteran of 24 days in the major leagues. "We changed a lot with this signing," GM Bill Bavasi said. "To be able to add a guy who could end up near the top of the rotation ... the upgrade in the rotation I hope is obvious."
Analysis: Baek will now go back to Triple-A Tacoma with Feierabend. Woods goes back to the bullpen. Consider Baek or Feierabend low-end, long-term keeper options, while Woods is nothing more than middle reliever for the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: Seattle has Felix Hernandez, Jarrod Washburn, Miguel Batista, Jeff Weaver and Horacio Ramirez in its rotation. Before appealing to Weaver last week, it was faced with choosing a fifth starter between Cha-Sueng Baek, a Triple-A call-up whose season ended last September due to elbow tendinitis, converted reliever Jake Woods and Ryan Feierabend, a veteran of 24 days in the major leagues.
News: Ryan Feierabend pitched well in his second major league start for the Mariners Friday, throwing five innings and allowing two runs against Texas.
Analysis: Feierabend walked the bases loaded in the second, but got out of the jam without allowing any runs. Manager Mike Hargrove pulled Feierabend before the start of the sixth with the rookie having thrown 96 pitches. The 21-year-old prospect is more of a long-term keeper option. It's doubtful he's given a true shot to win a rotation spot in spring 2007 at this point, though.
News: Ryan Feierabend lasted six innings in his first major league start Sunday at the White Sox, allowing five runs and eight hits while striking out four and walking three. He was the pitcher of record for the loss.
Analysis: Called up from Double-A San Antonio on September 8, he pitched a combined six innings of scoreless relief against Toronto and Kansas City and took the injured Jarrod Washburn's start in the rotation. The 21-year-old prospect is more of a long-term keeper option. It's doubtful he's given a true shot to win a rotation spot in spring 2007 at this point, though.
News: LHP Ryan Feierabend was named the starter for Sunday's game versus the White Sox. Feierabend has made two relief appearances this season, pitching six scoreless innings.
Analysis: Feierabend will be making his first major league start in the place of injured LHP Jarrod Washburn, who is out for the year with a strained right calf muscle. The 21-year-old prospect is more of a long-term keeper option. It's doubtful he's given a true shot to win a rotation spot in spring 2007 at this point, though.
News: The Mariners have scrapped a plan to return RHP Joel Pineiro to the rotation. "By the time he could get his stamina back, it would be the end of the season," manager Mike Hargrove said. "With (Rafael) Soriano, (Julio) Mateo and (Mark) Lowe out, he gives us another right-hander in the bullpen." LHP Jake Woods will start instead, probably Thursday at Chicago. Hargrove said he also would consider LHP Ryan Feierabend for a start. "He hasn't done anything to make us not like him."
Analysis: Feierabend would be nothing more than a high-risk AL-only starting pitcher option in the event he starts in Fantasy Week 26 (Sept. 25-Oct. 1). The 21-year-old prospect is more of a long-term keeper option. It's doubtful he's given a true shot to win a rotation spot in spring 2007 at this point, though.
