Jean Machi takes first loss Tuesday vs. Brewers

(8/5/2014) Giants pitcher Jean Machi was stuck with his first loss of the season Tuesday, giving up one earned run on one hit and one walk in two innings and striking out two in his team's 4-3 defeat against the Brewers.

Machi (6-1) gave up a solo home run with two outs in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie, and he remained on to pitch a scoreless eighth, but his offense couldn't find a run in the final innings of the game. He owns a 1.68 ERA and 34:12 K:BB ratio in 48 1/3 innings.

(7/30/2014) Giants pitcher Jean Machi earned a win Wednesday, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out one in his team's 7-5 victory over the Pirates.

Machi (6-0) managed to face just five batters after inheriting two runners in the sixth inning, as the Giants managed to turn an unusual double play on a one-out walk with first base open, as the runner on second was caught errantly heading to third, and the runner on third took off for home while the first runner was caught between bases. Machi owns a 1.55 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 32:11 K:BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings.

(5/24/2014) Giants reliever Jean Machi got a rare save Friday, with a multi-inning effort in a 6-2 win over the Twins.

Machi recorded five outs while facing just four batters, as he closed out the eighth inning with a double play which retired an inherited runner. He closed out the ninth inning with ease as well, finished with one strikeout in 1 2/3 innings, while using just 13 pitches.

Machi has been a weapon out of the bullpen for the Giants, posting an 0.37 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in 24 1/3 innings of work.

(5/6/2014) Giants pitcher Jean Machi gained a share of the NL lead in wins Monday after pitching two scoreless innings in his team's 11-10, 13-inning victory over the Pirates.

Machi (5-0) struck out two and gave up three hits in his two innings of action, but he was able to pick up a win after the opposing pitcher committed a throwing error during Machi's sacrifice attempt in the top of the 13th inning. He owns a 0.53 ERA and 13:3 K:BB ratio in 17 innings.

(8/20/2013) The Giants recalled left-hander Michael Kickham and right-hander Jean Machi from Triple-A Fresno prior to Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

Kickham went 7-7 with a 4.31 ERA in 20 starts in the minors and 0-3 with a whopping 10.61 ERA in five appearances (three starts) in the majors. Machi owned a 0.98 ERA in 18 1/3 innings of relief in the minors this season.

(6/24/2013) The Giants have optioned reliever Jean Machi to Triple-A Fresno, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Machi recorded a 3.86 ERA and a 4.4 K/BB in 25 2/3 innings with the club. Expect him to be back in the Giants bullpen at some point this year.

(5/18/2013) Giants reliever Jean Machi so impressed in his earlier callup, posting a 1.74 ERA in nine appearances, the team recalled him Saturday, just after the 10-day waiting period for an optioned player expired.

Brett Pill was optioned to Triple-A Fresno to make room on the active roster.

Machi struck out 10 batters in 10 1/3 innings, while walking just three.

(4/28/2013) With reliever Jeremy Affeldt expected to return from the disabled list this week, Giants manager Bruce Bochy told MLB.com Sunday that Jean Machi could stick around in the majors a little longer.

Machi was promoted when Affeldt landed on the DL on April 17. The right-hander has stuck out five and has not allowed a run through 6 2/3 innings of work.

"He really has shown he's a major-league pitcher and can help out anywhere," Bochy said.

Bochy has yet to make his final decision and Affeldt could rejoin the team as early as Tuesday.

(3/30/2013) Giants reliever Jean Machi has been assigned to Triple-A Fresno. Machi allowed four earned runs in 10 innings this spring, striking out seven batters and walking two.

The 31-year-old made his major-league debut for the Giants last season, surrendering five earned runs in 6 2/3 innings. He will likely be promoted to the Giants' bullpen at some point in 2013.

The Giants have also activated first baseman Aubrey Huff and pitchers Brad Penny and Shane Loux from the disabled list. The Giants created some room by moving Freddy Sanchez to the 60-day disabled list.
