Cardinals RP Cate someone to watch
(2/23/2007) According to the team's official site, fans and every one alike should keep an eye on Cardinals left-hander RP Cate, who pitched like a man on the fast track to the majors last season. Cate posted a 1.54 ERA in 34 games for Class A Palm Beach with 58 strikeouts and 13 walks in 41 innings and followed that with 20 strikeouts and six walks in 15 2/3 innings for Springfield, where he posted an 0.57 ERA. Most likely he will open the season in Double-A, but Cate's plus arm and penchant for throwing strikes could accelerate his climb up the organizational ladder. "I like the way the ball comes out of his hand, he's got good deception in varying pitches," La Russa said.
