(5/21/2009) Hours after playing 22 innings, the Marlins have summoned two pitchers from the minors as bullpen reinforcements. Newcomers Dave Davidson and Cristhian Martinez are expected to be the only relievers available for Thursday night's game against Arizona. The bullpen was exhausted after Florida split a doubleheader with Arizona, capped by a 13-inning nightcap that ended at 1:48 a.m. Thursday. Outfielder Alejandro De Aza was optioned to New Orleans, and utilityman Alfredo Amezaga was placed on the disabled list retroactive to Sunday with a bruised left knee.

(3/12/2007) Outfielder Rajai Davis and catcher Carlos Maldonado, who spent time with Pittsburgh late last season, were among 11 players cut by the Pirates on Monday. Optioned to Double-A Altoona were left-handers Dave Davidson and Josh Shortslef, right-hander Romulo Sanchez, infielder Javier Guzman and outfielder Nyjer Morgan. Also reassigned to the minor league camp were right-handers Franquelis Osoria and Allan Simpson, infielder Eddy Garabito and outfielder Vic Buttler.
