Hideki Okajima to return to Japan

(12/15/2013) SB Nation reports that free agent reliever Hideki Okajima will pitch in Japan for the 2014 season.

Okajima spent 2013 in the Oakland organization, making five appearances for the Athletics. He pitched in the Japanese Central League from 1995 to 2005 and in the Japanese Pacific League in 2006 and 2012.

(10/18/2013) Athletics pitchers Hideki Okajima and Chris Resop have each elected free agency, according to Baseball America.

Both pitchers were outrighted off the team's 40-man roster. Okajima posted a 2.25 ERA in just four innings pitched in the majors. Resop went 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA and a
1.78 WHIP over 18 innings pitched this season.

(9/3/2013) The Athletics have recalled pitchers Tommy Milone, Evan Scribner and Pat Neshek from the minors, MLB.com reports Tuesday. To make room for Neshek on the 40-man roster, Hideki Okajima was designated for assignment.

(6/14/2013) The Athletics optioned pitcher Hideki Okajima to Triple-A Sacramento Friday, clearing a 25-man roster spot for Dan Otero. He allowed one earned run on seven hits and two walks in four innings with the A's.

Okajima returns to a 2.16 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 18:2 K:BB ratio in 16 2/3 innings with Sacramento this season.

(6/4/2013) Athletics reliever Hideki Okajima took a comebacker off his pitching forearm Monday against the Brewers, MLB.com reports. Manager Bob Melvin said he was OK and won't need an X-ray. 

Okajima gave up one hit in a scoreless inning following Tommy Milone to the mound. His ERA is 2.45 on the year over four appearances with one strikeout.

(5/17/2013) The Athletics have recalled reliever Hideki Okajima from Triple-A Sacramento, the club announced.

Okajima has been dominant at Triple-A, as he has 18 strikeouts and a 2.16 ERA over 16 2/3 innings. He posted a 4.32 ERA over 8 1/3 innings in Boston in 2011, his last stint as a major leaguer.

(2/11/2013) Oakland signed relief pitcher Hideki Okajima to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, reports MLB.com Monday. Okajima was out of the majors last year as he pitched in Japan. He posted a 0.94 ERA over 56 appearances spanning 47 2/3 innings with the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of the Japan Pacific League.
