A's send 10 to minor-league camp


(3/14/2010) Former major league infielder Dallas McPherson was among the 10 players the Oakland Athletics reassigned to their minor league camp on Sunday. The team also reassigned right-handed pitchers Sam Demel and Matt Wright, left-handed pitcher Cedrick Bowers, catchers Joel Galarraga and Max Stassi, and infielders Grant Green, Jemile Weeks, Matt Whitney and Corey Wimberly. The Athletics have 53 players remaining in camp with the 40-man roster and 13 non-roster invitees. The breakdown includes 27 pitchers, four catchers, 12 infielders and 10 outfielders.

A's hand out 19 spring invites


(12/15/2009) Infielder Grant Desme, former Angels third baseman Dallas McPherson and ex-Reds reliever Marcus McBeth are among 19 players extended invitations to spring training on Monday by the A's. They also signed pitcher Matt Wright, infielder Matt Whitney, reliever Cedrick Bowers and reliever Fernando Hernandez to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training. The other 13 invitations are players already in the organization: right-handers Sam Demel and Tyson Ross; catchers Josh Donaldson, Joel Galarraga, Anthony Recker and Max Stassi; infielders Adrian Cardenas, Grant Green, Brett Wallace and Jemile Weeks; and outfielders Matt Carson, Corey Wimberly and Desme.

Royals cut three from spring camp


(3/17/2009) The Kansas City Royals optioned RHPs Henry Barrera and Julio Pimentel (elbow) to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday. Also, they reassigned RHP Matt Wright to minor league camp. Pimentel will be out at least six weeks with an elbow injury and possibly the season, if surgery is required. The Royals say Pimentel has a non-displaced bone spur fracture in his pitching elbow. The bone spur is close to the ulnar collateral ligament. Manager Trey Hillman says the 23-year-old is waiting for a second opinion on whether he needs surgery.

(3/14/2009) Royals RHP Matt Wright has not pitched since March 6 because of a strained left groin.

Royals invite two to spring training


(12/3/2008) The Royals re-signed C Matt Tupman and RHP Matt Wright to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training. Also, they offered salary arbitration to 2B Mark Grudzielanek, who has until Sunday night to accept. If he does, he becomes a signed player. If he doesn't, the Royals could still sign him back in free agency.

(1/17/2008) The Royals signed OF Damon Hollins, C Ken Huckaby, LHP Tim Hamulack and UTL David Matranga to minor league contracts and utility man Jason Smith accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Omaha. Also, the Royals invited RHP Roman Colon, LHP John Foster, RHP Roberto Giron, RHP Ben Hendrickson, RHP Hideo Nomo, RHP Matt Peterson, RHP Chin-hui Tsao, RHP Matt Wright, C Adam Donachie, C Damaso Espino, C Ken Huckaby, C Kiel Thibault, INF Mike Aviles, SS Angel Berroa, SS Jason Smith, INF Mike Stodolka, OF Chris Lubanski and OF Damon Hollins.

Royals give Matt Wright spring invite


(12/19/2007) The Kansas City Royals re-signed RHP Ben Hendrickson, RHP Matt Wright and 1B Mike Stodolka to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training. Also, they signed RHP Matt Peterson to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training, along with C Damaso Espino and RHP Roman Colon.

(11/14/2007) Matt Wright made his second start of the Baseball World Cup tournament Tuesday and allowed one run and one hit in three innings, striking out four. Six U.S. pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts.

(3/14/2007) The Royals optioned RHP Luke Hochevar to Double-A, OF Mitch Maier to Triple-A, and RHP Carlos Rosa to Class-A. They reassigned P Dewon Brazelton, Billy Buckner, Wayne Franklin, Roberto Giron, Tyler Lumsden and Matt Wright; C Damaso Espino and Jared Price; and 1B Graham Koonce to minor league camp.
