by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/10/2014) Tigers right-hander Kevin Whalen has been promoted from Triple-A Toledo to the majors, according to the Toledo Blade on Sunday.

(2/22/2014) Right-hander Kevin Whalen, who had only a cup of coffee in the majors with the Yankees in 2011, is back with the organization that drafted him in 2005. The 30-year-old reliever has signed with the Tigers.

Whalen has yielded just 296 hits with 562 strikeouts in 443 2/3 innings during his minor league career. But those impressive numbers haven't translated into success. He has averaged five walks per nine innings, which has prevented him from being promoted.
