Orioles OF Nolan Reimold starts immediately following recall

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/9/2015) The Orioles wasted little time getting outfielder Nolan Reimold into the starting lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox following his promotion from Triple-A Norfolk. Reimold started in left field and hit sixth against left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez.

"We've been looking for a way to get him here and he's just a good fit for the time being, and we hope he finishes the year with us. We think he's got a chance to help us," manager Buck Showalter said, per MASNsports.com. "You know the whole story with Nolan and the challenges and everything. We think he can help us win. And I don't know what else you could do to get back here physically. Talking to everybody down there, we've got two or three guys. But right-handed bat and a guy who's capable of doing a lot of things. Can play a lot of places. He's performing and running really good, just like we know Nolan can do. He did everything we asked him to do and then some."

Reimold hit .286 with two home runs, 12 doubles, 13 RBI, 22 runs, 16 walks and 36 strikeouts in 46 games with Norfolk. He hit .310 (18 for 58) with four doubles and three RBI against lefties.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/14/2015) Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold is suing John Hopkins for negligent medical care, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Reimold underwent spinal surgery in 2012, and the suit claims that the outfielder was discharged and returned to the field before his bones were fully fused.

"Every game I played caused further injury," he said in the lawsuit.

Reimold didn't play after April 30 during the 2012 season but was back on the field for Opening Day in 2013, playing in 23 of his team's 27 games that April. He would go on to play just nine games after May 11 in 2013 and underwent a second surgery in July of that year.

Reimold saw just 69 at-bats between two teams last season. He signed a minor-league deal with the Orioles last offseason.

The 31-year-old is batting .333 with a .459 on-base percentage in 17 games. The left fielder has one homerun and six RBI this spring. What is more important than his stats, is the fact that he is healthy.

"This is Nolan before he got hurt, so far," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "He's playing without caution. … Even physically the eyeball test is better. He is doing everything everybody else is doing and then some. You can see it on his face how good he feels."

Reimold, drafted in the second round of the 2005 draft, has missed multiple seasons due to injuries throughout his career. Showalter talked about what Reimold has overcome and his resolve to stick with the game.

"This guy has had issues for three years, and some of it life-altering issues. The heck with getting ready to play baseball, how about being able to pick up your kids?" Showalter said. "One description of Nolan [is] soft? It's just the opposite. Most people would never have continued to do what he is doing with the things he's had."
