Reid Brignac thinks he can contribute

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/20/2013) Yankees infielder Reid Brignac, who was acquired in a trade from Colorado Saturday, is hoping his new team looks at him as more than just a defensive option off the bench, according to the New York Post.

"Hopefully, they don’t just look at me as a defensive player and hopefully I’ll swing the bat well because I’ve been feeling really good in the box," he said. "Had a tough gig coming off the bench and pinch-hitting with Colorado but had success, and I’m in a good place mentally and physically in the box."

Brignac's Yankees' debut was rained out Sunday, but he's eager to get into the lineup.

"I know all these hitters in this division," Brignac said. "How to position myself and where to play. In the National League, I didn’t really know a lot of those guys, never faced a lot of them either. So it will be good to get in the box against some guys I’ve faced and have some history with."

Reid Brignac starting at short for Yankees

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(5/19/2013) The Yankees will start infielder Reid Brignac at shortstop Sunday at home against Toronto, the Journal News reports.

Brignac said he's been on an emotional roller coaster since being designated for assignment by the Rockies. He hit .250 with a homer and six RBI over 29 games for Colorado.

"Just to be a very good shortstop out there when he plays and to add offensively," manager Joe Girardi said of his expectations for Brignac. "I’ve seen him have some big days. I’ve seen him have some good years. I think there’s some good talent there. So we’re going to see what he can do. I think he’s a really good defender. I think he’s got a little pop in his bat. This ballpark might play well for that."

Rockies carrying extra infielders

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/29/2013) With the announcement that outfielder Tyler Colvin will begin the season at Triple-A Colorado Spring, the Rockies will open the season with just four outfielders. That means both Reid Brignac and Jonathan Herrara will make the opening-day roster as infielders.

Herrera batted .290 in the spring, while Brignac posted a .310 batting average. Both have experience at the major-league level, but will likely serve as utility infielders to begin the season.

Reid Brignac in the lead for utility job

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

He doubled and walked for the Rockies in his two plate appearances in Thursday's Cactus League loss to the Brewers, pushing his spring line to .310/.429/.483 in 36 plate appearances. Brignac was acquired from the Rays in February for a player to be named later and cash.

Reid Brignac is your 2013 Troy Tulowitzki insurance

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/28/2013) With Troy Tulowitzki a perennial injury risk, his owners may want to take a closer look at Reid Brignac, added to the roster after his dumping by the Rays this winter.

Brignac, a former top prospect, is draftable in the reserve round of a deep NL-only league, and isn't necessarily useful to just the Tulo owner; anyone who fears another Tulowitzki injury may want to consider him. Plus, Josh Rutledge took a nosedive at the end of 2012, and could fail to click early this year. In will step Brignac, who showed power/speed early in his minor-league career, but seemed to lose both as he went up the ranks. Could Colorado be a cure? Maybe a change of scenery leads to a new lease on his career? At just 27, there's still time, talent and the very real possibility that Brignac finds his way to 300 at-bats.
