Report: Marlins INF Reid Brignac joining Triple-A New Orleans

(5/13/2015) Veteran utility infielder Reid Brignac has accepted an assignment from the Marlins to Triple-A New Orleans rather than opting for free agency, per SB Nation.

The 29-year-old Brignac was outrighted after going 1-for-13 to start the season. Miami is the fifth team for which he has played since 2012.

(5/11/2015) Infielder Reid Brignac was outrighted to the Marlins' Triple-A team in New Orleans on Monday, per MLB.com. 

Brignac, who was designated for assignment on Friday, had just two hits in 13 at-bats for the Marlins this season. Brignac can reject the demotion in favor of free agency since he's been outrighted in the past. 

Brignac is a career .219 hitter over parts of eight seasons with five teams. 


Marlins activate Christian Yelich, DFA Reid Brignac

(5/8/2015) The Marlins activated outfielder Christian Yelich from the 15-day disabled list Friday, the team announced.

Yelich was placed on the disabled list after he suffered a back injury in April. Yelich will bat leadoff and play left field in Friday's game at San Francisco.

In order to accommodate Yelich on the roster, the Marlins designated infielder Reid Brignac for assignment. Brignac was hitting .077 in 13 at-bats this season.

The Marlins are the underdogs (+115) at San Francisco on Friday.

(4/13/2015) The Marlins have recalled catching prospect J.T. Realmuto and pitcher Carter Capps from Triple-A New Orleans while selecting the contract of infielder Reid Brignac, the team announced Monday.

Realmuto will take over backup-catcher duties from Jeff Mathis, who suffered a fractured finger Sunday. Realmuto got his first taste of major-league action last season, hitting .241/.267/.345 with nine RBI in 29 at-bats. He's 5 for 13 with a stolen base in three games with Triple-A New Orleans.

Capps is set to join the Marlins pitching staff with Henderson Alvarez heading to the disabled list. Capps has made two appearances with New Orleans this season, giving up two earned runs in one inning of work.

Brignac will serve as a utility infielder after Don Kelly suffered a fractured finger Sunday. Brignac hit .222/.300/.346 in 81 at-bats with the Phillies last season.

(4/12/2015) The Marlins are likely to call up catcher J.T. Realmuto and infielder Reid Brignac from Triple-A New Orleans to the 25-man roster, according to a report from the Miami Herald

Realmuto and Brignac would replace utility man Don Kelly and Jeff Mathis, who could end up on the disabled list soon. Both Kelly and Mathis fractured fingers during Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Rays.

(4/7/2015) When Reid Brignac didn't make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, he had to decide whether to accept an offer to play for the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans. 

There were no offers of a Major League slot on any other team's offer, so Brignac decided to report to Triple-A. 

Like I said to (Marlins general manager) Dan Jennings, I wasn't going to go and play Triple-A for another organization," Brignac said, per the Times Picayune. "I put in 40 days with the manager and coaches and players during big-league camp and, those relationships I built with those guys, I didn't want to start that over with a new organization."

"I want to continue to grow with them and hopefully stick around, not just one season, and be a part of this organization for more years to come," he added. "I would like to stick around with one team more than one season and then have to do it again the next year

(4/4/2015) The Marlins and infielder Reid Brignac have reportedly agreed to a minor-league contract, according to the Miami Herald.

Brignac opted out of his contract with Miami earlier in the week after being sent down to the minor leagues. He will begin the season with Triple-A New Orleans. 

Brignac hit .289 with seven RBI in 38 plate appearances this spring.
