Patton was designated for assignment earlier in the week and got through waivers. He had a 5.14 ERA in 14 innings of work this season.

(5/24/2014) The Padres found a taker for catcher Nick Hundley in the form of a trade with the Orioles Saturday.

The Orioles announced they have acquired Hundley in exchange for relief pitcher Troy Patton, prior to Saturday's action. Hundley will give the Orioles depth at catcher in the wake of Matt Wieters' elbow issues.

Hundley has been on the trade block all season, and is hitting .271/.271/.373 in 59 at-bats. Patton hasn't been much better this season, allowing six runs in 6 2/3 innings, though he has a 3.28 ERA in his career.

(5/10/2014) The Orioles are actively listening to trade offers for pitcher Troy Patton, USA Today reports. The team is also aggressively looking for a backup catcher, Fox Sports reports.

Patton has made three appearances since joining the Orioles at the beginning of May, giving up one earned run in 2 1/3 innings. The team's interest in adding depth to the catcher position may serve in part as insurance on Matt Wieters' balky elbow.

(4/29/2014) Orioles pitcher Troy Patton, on the restricted list for a violation of the league's substance abuse program, is nearing a return to action. However, he will likely have to wait at least one more day, after Tuesday's rainout of the Orioles' game against the Pirates.

Patton is serving a 25-game suspension, but would have been eligible to return Wednesday. Now, he will be eligible Thursday, assuming Wednesday's game gets played.

Troy Patton is scheduled to pitch Tuesday and Thursday for Norfolk. If all goes well, Patton is eligible to be reinstated on April 30 against Pittsburgh.

(12/20/2013) Major League Baseball has suspended Orioles pitcher Troy Patton 25 games for testing positive for amphetamines. He went 2-0 with a 3.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 42:16 K:BB ratio in 56 innings with the Orioles last season and will serve his suspension at the beginning of next season.

(11/26/2013) Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette told the Baltimore Sun Monday he has no intention of letting his arbitration eligible players go.

"We are planning on tendering those guys," Duquette said. "Most of the guys we have there are real good players."

First baseman Chris Davis highlights the list of arbitration eligible players, which features eight additional names. They are: catcher Matt Wieters; outfielders Nolan Reimold and Steve Pearce; and pitchers Troy Patton, Brian Matusz, Tommy Hunter, Jim Johnson and Bud Norris


Decline in walks bodes well for Troy Patton

(6/19/2013) Orioles reliever Troy Patton threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his last outing Monday against the Tigers, extending his scoreless streak to four appearances (five innings). After allowing at least one run in four straight appearances from May 17-28, Patton has posted a 1.93 ERA in his last seven outings.

"I feel like once the walks have subsided then the results have been better in general," Patton said, per MLB.com. "I've still given up runs since I've stopped walking people, but it's so much easier to minimize damage whenever they have to earn their way on."

Patton has struck out 10 batters and issued one walk in his last 9 1/3 innings. He had more walks (12) than strikeouts (11) in his first 20 appearances.
