Giants CF Angel Pagan sits out Tuesday vs. Brewers

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/26/2015) Giants CF Angel Pagan is absent from Tuesday's lineup against the Brewers. Pagan had started seven of the last eight games for manager Bruce Bochy, but he'll sit Tuesday's contest out. Bochy confirmed that Pagan is simply getting a day off to "clear his head" after a rough game on Monday.

Pagan is hitless over his last three games. Gregor Blanco will draw the start in center field and bat seventh on Tuesday.

Giants' Angel Pagan out for second game of DH; Nori Aoki in

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/23/2015) Giants center fielder Angel Pagan is out of the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies. Pagan went 1 for 5 and scored a run in the first game, and has now hit safely in five of his last six games.

Gregor Blanco, who started in left field and went doubled and scored in the first game, will slide over to center in the night cap.

Nori Aoki is back in the lineup in left field for the second game, after getting the first game off to rest.

Giants expecting less playing time for OF Maxwell, Blanco

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(5/18/2015) Now that outfielder Hunter Pence has returned to the Giants' lineup, manager Bruce Bochy admitted that playing time will be squeezed for Justin Maxwell and Gregor Blanco, per the San Francisco Chronicle

Maxwell had opened some eyes with good defense, but struggled offensively in May, making it easier to move him to the bench in favor of Pence. Blanco is hitting .266 in 32 games and will continue to be valuable bench piece moving forward.

"It'll be up to me to keep these guys sharp," Bochy said. "They know Hunter's going to be out there every day, and Angel (Pagan). I'm going to have to get creative in left field."

Giants' Bochy: Nori Aoki will 'be out there, for the most part'

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/17/2015) The Giants have an excess of capable outfielders with the return of Hunter Pence, and although left fielder Nori Aoki was out of the starting lineup for three straight games this week, manager Bruce Bochy said on Sunday that Aoki would play regularly, MLB.com reports.

Aoki was on the bench Thursday through Saturday, with Gregor Blanco leading off and starting in left field. Blanco shifted to center field Sunday and dropped to seventh in the order with Aoki rejoining the lineup.

"Nori is going to be out there, for the most part," Bochy said. "As for Blanco, I can't compliment him enough. Here is a guy who started every postseason game for us, and he hasn't been playing much. He stayed ready, got some playing time, and now it's hard to keep him out of the lineup."

Blanco started over Angel Pagan, who left Saturday's game with back spasms and will get back-to-back days off with the team not scheduled to play Monday.

Giants' Angel Pagan (back) out of lineup Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/17/2015) Giants center fielder Angel Pagan (back) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Pagan had to be removed from Saturday's game due to back spasms, so with the team scheduled for an off-day Monday, it's no surprise he's being rested in Sunday's series finale. Gregor Blanco will start in center field and bat seventh Sunday.

The Giants are underdogs (+102) in Cincinnati, per VegasInsider.com.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Blanco has seven hits and three walks in his last 13 at-bats. He has scored four runs during that four-game stretch.

Aoki has not performed poorly overall, but has slumped recently. He is batting .200 since May 5.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/3/2015) Giants outfielder Justin Maxwell is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Maxwell has made nine straight starts in right field thanks to a hot start with the bat, but he's hitless in 11 at-bats in his last three games and just 2 for 21 in his last five games. Gregor Blanco will draw the start in right field and bat eighth.

The Giants (-105) are a coin flip with the Angels (-105) Sunday, per VegasInsider.com.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Aoki started in all 17 of San Francisco's games leading up to Friday. He is hitting .315/.375/.397 with four doubles, a triple, three RBI and four stolen bases in 80 plate appearances. Gregor Blanco filled in for Aoki at the leadoff spot and in left field.

Giants' Brandon Belt starting in left field Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/19/2015) Giants first baseman Brandon Belt is starting in left field in Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Belt has spent all but one inning at first base since the start of the 2013 season, with his only non-1B appearance coming last year, when he played one inning in right field in a game. The position isn't completely foreign to the infielder, as he made 30 starts in 2011 and four starts in 2012 in left field.

The alignment allows manager Bruce Bochy to start Buster Posey and first base and insert Andrew Susac at catcher. With Belt in the outfield, Gregor Blanco is not in the starting lineup.

The Giants are favorites (-135) against the Diamondbacks Sunday.

Giants' Brandon Belt (groin) out of starting lineup Wednesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Giants will also start Matt Duffy at second base and Justin Maxwell in right field Wednesday, sending Joe Panik and Gregor Blanco to the bench.

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4/6/2015) The Giants Opening Day lineup will go left fielder Norichika Aoki, second baseman Joe Panik, center fielder Angel Pagan, catcher Buster Posey, first baseman Brandon Belt, third baseman Casey McGehee, shortstop Brandon Crawford, right fielder Gregor Blanco and pitcher Madison Bumgarner.

It was uncertain where Aoki would be slotted in the lineup with manager Bruce Bochy experimenting with him leading off during spring training.

Giants discussing Nori Aoki in left, Gregor Blanco in right

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/15/2015) Giants manager Bruce Bochy won't say it for sure, but the team is considering using Norichika Aoki in left field and Gregor Blanco in right field with Hunter Pence injured, reports MLB.com.

"That move has not been made," Bochy emphasized. "It's been in discussion."

Bochy likes how Aoki has looked in the outfield so far this spring.

"He's been fine out there," Bochy said of Aoki's right-field performance. But AT&T Park, Bochy added, features a "quirky outfield."

Blanco opened the game by running Royals starter Yordano Ventura to a full count before crushing a ball over the right-field fence to give the Giants an early lead, but the Royals evened the score in the bottom half of the first and didn't trail for the rest of the night. Blanco has hit just .176/.276/.255 in 51 postseason at-bats but has turned it up since Game 3 of the NLCS, going 5 for 15 with three walks, the home run and three RBI.
