Cincinnati also outrighted pitcher Jose Arredondo to Triple-A Louisville while optioning pitcher Logan Ondrusek to Double-A Pensacola.
Third baseman Jason Donald also was designated for assignment and the Reds purchased the contract of shortstop Cesar Izturis to take his place on the 40-man roster.

Donald had been out the last few days with a sprained knee but is on the mend. Donald, 28, is batting .303 this spring over 33 at-bats with four RBI and a stolen base.

Donald is expected to back up at second, shortstop and third base this season for the Reds. He was injured sliding into second base on Friday and is day to day.
