Gillespie began a rehab assignment Friday after dealing with a ribcage injury last month. He has hit .243/.300/.311 in 74 at-bats.

Gillespie was just claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays last weekend, but got in just one game before suffering the injury. There is not timetable for his return.

(7/5/2014) The Blue Jays  have signed Cole Gillespie off waivers from Seattle and designated for assignment fellow outfielder Kenny Wilson.

It didn't take long for Gillespie to find work after being dispatched Friday. But he must hit better to make a good impression with his new team - he is currently on a 2-for-27 slide that lowered his batting average from .341 to .254.

The team designated outfielder Cole Gillespie for assignment to make room for Hart.

Hart struggled in his first stint as an active player for Seattle with a .209 average and just five home runs in 139 at-bats.

Gillespie went 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI in a 6-2 loss to the Dodgers. Gillespie also scored a run in the game. He is now hitting .200 in 30 at-bats.

Gillespie was off waivers Saturday from the Giants. He was held without a hit in nine at-bats with the Giants and hit .277 with nine homers and 31 RBI in 235 at-bats with Triple-A Fresno.

(7/5/2013) The Giants purchased the contract of outfielder Cole Gillespie from Triple-A San Jose Friday after optioning Juan Perez. Angel Pagan was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster for Gillespie.

Gillespie is hitting .277 in 269 at-bats for San Jose. He last played in the majors in 2011, when he had two hits in six at-bats for the Diamondbacks.

(3/30/2013) The Giants reassigned outfielder Cole Gillespie to Triple-A Fresno Saturday, where he will open the season. Gillespie was battling for a roster spot, but the Giants opted to carry three catchers, leaving little room for another outfielder.

Gillespie had a nice spring, posting a .278 batting averaging, .854 on-base plus slugging percentage in 54 at-bats. Gillespie has 45 career home runs in 449 Triple-A games, mostly in the Arizona system.
