Marlins OF Cole Gillespie leaves Friday's game with wrist injury

(8/21/2015) Marlins outfielder Cole Gillespie left Friday's game in the sixth inning against the Phillies with a sore left wrist. He is considered day-to-day at this juncture.

Gillespie was 0 for 2 before being lifted for a defensive replacement to start the sixth inning.


Marlins scratch Christian Yelich with contusion

(8/11/2015) The Marlins scratched center fielder Christian Yelich from Tuesday's lineup, snapping a string of 39 straight starts in the outfield for Yelich. 

Yelich was in the original lineup, but he was removed due to a right knee contusion, per the Miami Herald

Cole Gillespie replaced Yelich in center, playing that position for the second straight day.

Gillespie's bat has been scorching over his last five games, where he's hitting .476 with 10 hits, three doubles and four RBI.

(7/11/2015) Marlins outfielder Cole Gillespie hit his first home run in over a year, as he went deep in the 14-3 rout of the Reds on Saturday. Gillespie went 3 for 5 with two RBI and three runs scored. His solo homer got the scoring started in the fifth inning for Miami, as it cut the Reds' lead to 2-1 at the time. The big day at the plate raised his batting average up to .333 for the season.

The last time Gillespie hit a home run was June 7, 2014. This was also Gillespie's third career three-hit game, with the prior one coming in August of 2013. 


Marlins call up LF Cole Gillespie from Triple-A

(6/27/2015) The Marlins have called up left fielder Cole Gillespie from Triple-A New Orleans on Saturday, the team announced via Twitter.

Gillespie will try and help the team fill the void left behind by Giancarlo Stanton's move to the 15-day disabled list because of a fracture in his wrist.

Gillespie hit .291 with 23 RBI in 247 at-bats in Triple-A this season.

(4/3/2015) Marlins outfielder Cole Gillespie accepted his assignment to Triple-A New Orleans, but outfielder Tyler Colvin has opted out, and is now a free agent, according to MLB.com on Friday.

Gillespie hit .214 (6 for 28) with two RBI this spring. Colvin was held to just three hits over 21 at-bats this spring.

Gillespie hit .243/.300/.311 in 74 at-bats between two major-league teams last season while also posting a .357/.436/.584 in 154 at-bats between three minor-league levels. Narveson made 24 starts for Nippon Professional Baseball's Yakult last season, posting a 4.53 ERA and 96:53 K:BB ratio in 137 innings.

It didn't take long for Gillespie to find work after being dispatched Friday. But he must hit better to make a good impression with his new team - he is currently on a 2-for-27 slide that lowered his batting average from .341 to .254.

The team designated outfielder Cole Gillespie for assignment to make room for Hart.

Hart struggled in his first stint as an active player for Seattle with a .209 average and just five home runs in 139 at-bats.

Gillespie was off waivers Saturday from the Giants. He was held without a hit in nine at-bats with the Giants and hit .277 with nine homers and 31 RBI in 235 at-bats with Triple-A Fresno.
