Braves begin to finalize roster

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/26/2013) The Atlanta Braves announced Tuesday that Jordan Schafer has made the opening day roster, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Atlanta optioned infielder Tyler Pastornicky, outfielder Jose Constanza and reliever David Carpenter to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Braves skipper Freddi Gonzalez said Pastornicky, who hit .375 this spring with two homers and 14 RBI over 56 at-bats, remains a valuable piece for the team. He will play second, shortstop and some outfield in the minors. He'll play mostly second after Paul Janish returns.

The 26-year-old Schafer hit .241 this spring with four stolen bases. The speedster will be a backup outfielder.

Jose Constanza aims to make late push

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(3/15/2013) Braves outfielder Jose Constanza finally joined the team on Friday after being delayed in the Dominican Republic for nearly a month by visa issues. Constanza, who is competing with Jordan Schafer for a roster spot, quickly made his Grapefruit League debut against the Mets on Friday and was thrown out trying to steal as a pinch runner.

"It's not like we've never seen him or laid eyes on him. We know him and know what he can do," manager Fredi Gonzalez told MLB.com. "We'll get him some at-bats. I don't think he's ready to play nine innings out of the chute. I think the history helps him."

Braves recall OF Constanza

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(9/1/2012) The Braves recalled four players as rosters expanded on Saturday. Atlanta recalled infielder Lyle Overbay, outfielder Jose Constanza, pitcher Peter Moylan and catcher J.C. Boscan.
