Twins get closer to finalizing opening day roster

(3/24/2014) The Twins made several roster moves Monday, which included releasing veteran reliever Matt Guerrier. The Twins also optioned pitcher Ryan Pressly, pitcher Michael Tonkin and catcher Chris Herrmann to Triple-A Rochester. 

Lastly, the Twins reassigned six players to minor-league camp. They were Matt HoffmanAaron ThomsponDeolis Guerra, Wilkin RamirezDoug Bernier and Deibinson Romero.


Wilkin Ramirez says he's fully recovered

(2/18/2014) Twins outfielder Wilkin Ramirez said his leg is fully recovered, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Ramirez fractured his tibia in late August. He worked out with a club during winter leagues, but was not activated after the club didn't qualify for round-robin play. Ramirez hit .272 in 81 at-bats last season. He's expected to compete for a role during spring training, but could wind up in the minors when the regular season begins. 


Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton among 23 non-roster invitees

(1/9/2014) The Twins announced Thursday they invited 23 players to spring training as non-roster invitees. Among the more notable names are top prospects Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton and Alex Meyer.

Other notable names are infielder Jason Bartlett and outfielder Jason Kubel, who have played for the Twins in the past. 

The remaining list of invites include Sean Gilmartin, Matt Hoffman, Aaron Thompson, Deolis Guerra, Lester Oliveros, Yohan Pino, Kyle Knudson, Matt Koch, Dan Rohlfing, Stuart Turner, James Beresford, Doug Bernier, Deibinson Romero, Brandon Waring, Darin Mastroianni, Jermaine Mitchell, Chris Rahl and Wilkin Ramirez.

(11/4/2013) The Twins have signed pitcher Lester Oliveros and outfielder Wilkin Ramirez to minor league contracts Monday. 

Oliveros spent most of 2013 rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. Ramirez batted .272 over 35 games with the Twins before hurting his left tibia in August.

(7/23/2013) Twins outfielder Wilkin Ramirez has finally been cleared of concussion symptoms and is about ready to begin a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports Tuesday. 

On the 7-day DL since May 26, Ramirez will head to Fort Myers on Wednesday. 

"He's doing fine," Twins assistant GM Rob Antony said. "He's going to go down there and work out for a couple days and if everything feels good and he's ready to go, we'll start him on a rehab assignment."

(7/9/2013) Twins outfielder Wilkin Ramirez, who remains on the seven-day disabled list for concussions, has not improved much from his May 26 head injury, MLB.com reports Tuesday. 

Ramirez played three games for Class A Fort Myers during a rehab assignment but returned to the Twins Cities for further testing. 

"He is not doing great. He's still having headaches, so the symptoms are all still there," assistant general manager Rob Antony said. "We're just going to basically take it easy with him, do very little with him until the symptoms start to subside."

(6/26/2013) Twins injured outfielder Wilkin Ramirez, who had a setback in his return from a concussion Saturday when he felt dizzy after diving for a ball, said he felt better Tuesday.

Unfortunately, Ramirez did not feel as well Wednesday, MLB.com reports. 

"We've got to keep an eye on him," Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said. "He was much better [Tuesday]. [Wednesday], he came in and he was OK. Not great. So, he's still not ready to resume baseball activities. So we're going to have to just keep an eye on him the next few days and decide what the next step is."

(6/23/2013) Twins outfielder Wilkin Ramirez had to be removed from his rehab game Saturday with Class A Fort Myers after diving for a ball, MLB.com reports. 

Ramirez said after the game that he felt dizzy and suffered a headache. Ramirez was already on the disabled list with concussion-like symptoms since June 9. He will be re-evaluated before he can begin playing for the Miracle again.

(6/15/2013) Twins outfielder Wilkin Ramirez, on the seven-day disabled list due to concussion symptoms, has progressed to baseball activities Friday, MLB.com reports. As of Friday, he said he was feeling much better. 

Ramirez, who suffered the concussion May 25, has been taking batting practice with the team. He's also completed running drills and is making good progress. 

"I'm feeling good," Ramirez said. "I took BP on the field already and I'll do some baserunning and some stretching."

Ramirez is nearing a rehab assignment once he feels good enough to play in games. That said, no decisions have been made as to when and where that assignment will begin, according to general manager Terry Ryan.

Ramirez still isn't quite past the symptoms, however. He suffered the concussion on May 25 and the Twins still do not have an official timetable for his return. The good news is that he's resumed light baseball activities such as taking swings off a tee and running.
