Brandon Allen exits spring game with calf injury

(3/13/2014) Mets first baseman Brandon Allen left Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals with a calf injury.

Allen sustained the injury in the final inning of the game and was removed. He was receiving a good chunk of playing time due to injuries to Ike Davis and Lucas Duda. He was batting .174/.208/.174 with two RBI over 23 at-bats this spring.

Mets sign Brandon Allen to minors deal

(11/20/2013) The Mets signed first baseman Brandon Allen to a minor league deal with a spring training invite Tuesday, according to the New York Daily News.

Allen last played in the majors with the Rays in 2012, and he spent all of the 2013 season with San Diego's Triple-A affiliate in Tucson.

Allen, who joined Texas on a minor-league deal in the offseason, was one of the team's first roster cuts this spring after hitting just .194 in Cactus League play.

Mike Olt among Rangers' trims

(3/19/2013) The Rangers made another wave of roster cuts Tuesday, optioning pitchers Jeff Beliveau and Wilmer Font, outfielder Engel Beltre and first baseman Mike Olt to Triple-A Round Rock. Texas also moved first basemen Brandon Allen and Brandon Snyder, catchers Jose Felix and Juan Apodaca, pitchers Collin Balester, Neal CottsEvan Meek and Yoshinori Tateyama to its minor-league camp.

Olt is viewed as one of the club's top prospects, but struggled during his spring audition and hit just .194 in Cactus League play. The 24-year-old did manage two homers and should rise to the Rangers later in the year.


Allen headed to Japan


(7/27/2012) The Rays sold the rights to Brandon Allen to the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of the Japanese Central League on Friday. Allen batted .100 with one homer and three RBI in 10 games for Tampa Bay this season.
