by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (3/31/2013) After failing to secure a spot on the opening day roster, first baseman Brandon Allen was released by the Rangers on Sunday. Allen, who joined Texas on a minor-league deal in the offseason, was one of the team's first roster cuts this spring after hitting just .194 in Cactus League play.
Olt is viewed as one of the club's top prospects, but struggled during his spring audition and hit just .194 in Cactus League play. The 24-year-old did manage two homers and should rise to the Rangers later in the year.
Allen headed to Japan
(7/27/2012) The Rays sold the rights to Brandon Allen to the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of the Japanese Central League on Friday. Allen batted .100 with one homer and three RBI in 10 games for Tampa Bay this season.
