Dodgers make September call-ups

(9/1/2014) The Dodgers recalled outfielder Joc Pederson, second baseman Alex Guererro, catcher Tim Federowicz and pitcher Yimi Garcia Monday with rosters expanding in September.

Pederson closed out his first season with Triple-A Albuquerque by hitting .303/.435/.582 with 33 home runs, 78 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 445 at-bats.

In addition, the team activated pitcher Chris Perez from the disabled list. Perez has been out since Aug. 3 while nursing an ankle injury.


Chris Perez does not expect to be 100 percent

(8/22/2014) Though he expects to be in the majors when rosters expand Sept. 1, Dodgers reliever Chris Perez admitted to the Orange County Register Friday his ankle is still not 100-percent healthy.

"It's serviceable," Perez said. "I feel good. I'm still trying to build up the strength in it."

Perez has a 5.03 ERA in the majors this season, and is trying to work his way back from bone spurs in his ankle. He does not expect to undergo surgery to remove them, so he will have to manage the pain. He is currently on a rehab assignment at Class A Rancho Cucamonga, where he will make one more appearance next Friday.

Dodgers make several roster moves Monday

(8/4/2014) The Dodgers made a several roster moves prior to Monday's game at home against the Angels. 

The team placed reliever Chris Perez on 15-day disabled list due to bone spurs in his right ankle and selected contract of reliever Carlos Frias from Triple-A Albuquerque. In order to create room on the 40-man roster for Frias, the team also transferred pitcher Paul Maholm to the 60-day disabled list.

(6/7/2014) Dodgers pitcher Chris Perez was saddled with his third loss Saturday after surrendering a walkoff triple in the 10th inning of his team's 5-4 loss to the Rockies.

Perez (0-3) was able to get Troy Tulowitzki to ground out to open the 10th, but the next batter reached on a single. After striking out the following batter to put two outs on the board, Perez ceded the game-ending triple to defensive replacement Brandon Barnes. The Dodgers reliever owns a 5.11 ERA and 23:10 K:BB ratio in 24 2/3 innings.

(5/22/2014) Dodgers pitcher Chris Perez took the loss Thursday night against the Mets in New York. 

Perez surrendered a run-scoring single to Juan Lagares in the seventh and a run-scoring triple to Curtis Granderson in the eighth. He was charged with two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out two in 1 1/3 innings. He owns a 5.68 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP in 19 innings of relief this season.

(5/3/2014) Dodgers pitcher Chris Perez couldn't convert a ninth-inning save opportunity Saturday, giving up one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out one in one inning of action.

Manager Don Mattingly said that while normal closer Kenley Jansen wasn't hurt, he wasn't available for Saturday's save opportunity. Though Perez couldn't successfully convert the save, his team went on to win 9-7 in extra innings. He owns a 1.88 ERA and 10:5 K:BB ratio in 14 1/3 innings.

(5/1/2014) Chris Perez did not sign with the Dodgers to be a closer, but he did nail down a save Thursday in Minnesota.

Perez retired all five batters he faced and fanned two to lower his ERA to 1.35. He entered with two on and one out in the eighth. He struck out Sam Fuld to end that inning.

(12/23/2013) The Dodgers are close to signing free-agent reliever Chris Perez to a one-year contract, the Los Angeles Times reports. Financial terms of the potential deal are not yet know.

Perez posted a a 4.33 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 54:21 K:BB ratio in 54 innings last season and saved 123 games for the Indians over the last four seasons. He would likely pair with Brian Wilson to serve as set-up men for Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen in Los Angeles.

(12/8/2013) MLB.com reports that the Orioles are interested in free agent closer Chris Perez. Though he saved 25 games for the Indians in 2013, Perez was released in October after a season that featured inconsistency on the field and a guilty plea to a charge of marijuana possession off of it.

The Orioles are looking for a new closer after having traded Jim Johnson to the Athletics last week.

(9/26/2013) The Indians will continue to use Chris Perez as the team's closer, according to the Plain Dealer

Perez blew a save against the White Sox Tuesday, but was bailed out after Jason Giambi hit a walkoff home run. When asked whether the team would make a change in the late innings, manager Terry Francona remained loyal to Perez. 

"Can you imagine if, every time somebody gave up a homer, we went to somebody else?'' Francona said. "If we just automatically went to somebody else, we wouldn't have a team. I wouldn't want to play for that guy.

Francona added that he thinks Perez has thrown well in the past month, despite the poor results. Perez has a 3.71 ERA in 53 1/3 innings.

(9/24/2013) Indians closer Chris Perez was removed from Tuesday's game after blowing a save, giving up two earned runs on three hits while striking out two and recording two outs. His team would go on to beat the White Sox, 5-4.

It was Perez's first blown save since Aug. 14, but he's given up six earned runs in 8 2/3 innings in September. He owns a 3.71 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 54:21 K:BB ratio in 53 1/3 innings.

(9/9/2013) It wasn't easy Monday night against the Royals, but Indians closer Chris Perez earned his 23rd save of the season.

Perez walked two batters and allowed a base hit but no runs scored in the 4-3 win. He struck out a batter over 27 pitches for a wild scoreless inning. His ERA is at 3.62.

The Cleveland closer has given up four runs over his last four appearances and hasn't had many dominant saves of late. Still, Cleveland will continue to use him in the role as they attempt to win a Wild Card spot.

(9/4/2013) Indians closer Chris Perez slammed the door in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Orioles to earn his 22nd save, striking out one in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Perez rebounded nicely after giving up three earned runs the previous day. He owns a 3.59 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 44:16 K:BB ratio in 47 2/3 innings.

(9/3/2013) Indians closer Chris Perez entered Tuesday's game against Baltimore in the ninth inning with a 4-0 lead. It was a non-save situation.

Perez made things pretty sticky as he allowed two singles followed by a Nate McLouth three-run homer to make it 4-3. He was able to regroup and get the next three batters, two via the strikeout, to end the game. He needed 27 pitches and his ERA is now at 3.66.

Perez has allowed nine earned runs over his last 11 appearances, but does have seven scoreless appearances over that stretch. He's been shaky at times, but has 21 saves in 25 chances.


Chris Perez pleads no contest to drug charges

(9/3/2013) Indians reliever Chris Perez plead no contest to drug charges stemming from a June incident, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer

Perez was found guilty of receiving a small package of marijuana that was mailed to his home. Perez will pay a $250 fine, and has been sentenced to a year of probation. He will also complete Major League Baseball's drug treatment program, and is scheduled to give a 15-20 minute talk to a local high school about the dangers of drugs. He will not miss any time on the mound.

Perez has a 3.15 ERA in 45 2/3 innings.

(9/1/2013) Indians closer Chris Perez did not pitch in a save situation Sunday as he took the mound in Detroit. He was pitching with a 4-0 lead and kept it that way, however.

Perez didn't make things easy Sunday as he allowed three base hits over an inning of work on 21 pitches. Still, he didn't allow a run as he secured the shutout win. His ERA is now at 3.15.

Perez has gone four consecutive scoreless appearances with two saves over that span since his last run allowed on Aug. 19 at Anaheim. He's been shaky at times, but has gone 21 of 25 in save chances this year.
