Jeff Manship sailing off to Lehigh Valley

(7/25/2014) Right-handed reliever Jeff Manship has accepted an assignment by the Phillies to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He was designated Wednesday.

Manship has never compiled an ERA lower than 5.28 in six big-league seasons and owns a 6.65 ERA this year.


Carlos Ruiz's activation among Phillies roster moves

(7/23/2014) The Phillies made a few roster moves Wednesday, which included removing catcher Carlos Ruiz (concussion) from the 7-day disabled list.

The Phillies also recalled reliever Phillippe Aumont from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, optioned catcher Cameron Rupp to Triple-A and designated pitcher Jeff Manship for assignment.

(7/5/2014) Phillies pitcher Jeff Manship began a rehab assignment with the team's Gulf Coast League affiliate Saturday, striking out one and getting two groundouts in a 1-2-3 first inning.

Manship has been out sine June 1 while recovering from a quad injury. He's made 16 appearances for the Phillies, posting a 5.89 ERA and 14:11 K:BB ratio in 18 1/3 innings.

(5/31/2014) Phillies pitcher Jeff Manship was removed from Saturday's game against the Mets after suffering a right quad strain while running the bases, the team announced.

Manship tossed four perfect innings of relief and recorded six strikeouts, but he suffered his injury trying to beat out a grounder during his second at-bat in the bottom of the 13th inning. He owns a 5.89 ERA and 14:11 K:BB ratio in 18 1/3 innings.

The Phillies are probably going to roll with a four-man rotation in the early-going, but Manship has worked his way into the conversation as a potential option once a fifth starter is needed. He's posted a 1.80 ERA and 16:2 K:BB ratio in 20 innings this spring.

(3/20/2014) Veteran right-hander Jeff Manship continued his improbable run at a rotation spot for the Phillies on Thursday with a strong performance against a Houston lineup that included nearly all its starters.

Manship threw five solid innings, giving up one run on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts. He has limited opponents to just four earned runs in 16 innings this spring and has fanned 14.

Such numbers come as a bit of surprise considering the 29-year-old Manship failed as both a starter and reliever last season with Colorado. He was winless in five decisions and carried an abysmal 7.04 ERA.

(10/19/2013) Relief pitcher Jeff Manship has elected to become a free agent. Manship was recently demoted to Triple-A by the Colorado Rockies and instead elected to find a new team. 

The 28-year-old right-handed reliever did not have a good year in 2013. He made 11 appearances, four starts, with a 7.04 ERA and 1.60 WHIP. He walked 12 and struck out 18 over 30 2/3 innings. 

Manship will likely land a minor league deal somewhere and attempt to make a roster in spring training next season.

(8/24/2013) Rockies pitcher Jeff Manship put together a quality start against the Marlins Saturday but couldn't avoid dropping to 0-4 in his team's 3-0 loss. Manship surrendered three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four in six innings.

It was Manship's first quality start after lasting five innings in each of his first three starts, but he still has four straight losses to open his Rockies tenure. He owns a 6.86 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 12:8 K:BB ratio going into Friday's start against the Reds.

(8/19/2013) Rockies starter Jeff Manship didn't have a solid outing Monday in Philadelphia.

Manship allowed five earned runs over five innings and took the loss for the Rockies. Manship, now 0-3 for Colorado, allowed six hits and walked one batter with four strikeouts over 83 pitches. He allowed two homers and his ERA is at 7.80.

Manship made just his third start for Colorado. He hasn't been very good in his last two. He's allowed 11 runs over a span of his last 10 innings with four homers given up. Manship is next scheduled to get a start for the Rockies on Saturday at Miami.

(8/14/2013) Rockies starting pitcher Jeff Manship (0-2) took a step back as he suffered his second loss of the season Tuesday night against the Padres. The right-hander was charged with six runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings of a 7-5 defeat.

Manship has a 7.20 ERA and a 1.70 WHIP through his first two starts (10 innings). He is scheduled to make his next start Monday at Philadelphia.

(8/8/2013) Rockies starting pitcher Jeff Manship delivered a strong outing on short notice Thursday against the Mets, but he still ended up on the losing end of a 2-1 decision. Manship, who was recalled after Tyler Chatwood (elbow) went on the disabled list, allowed two runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out four in five innings.

Manship (0-1) held a 1-0 lead before New York took the lead for good with an RBI groundout and sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. 

The Rockies haven't announced yet if Manship will remain in the rotation while Chatwood is sidelined.

(8/8/2013) The Rockies announced pitcher Jeff Manship was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs to start Thursday's game against the Mets, according to The Denver Post. Manship replaces Tyler Chatwood, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation.

Manship is 1-1 with a 5.67 ERA in six career MLB starts. He was 6-8 with a 4.85 ERA in 24 outings (17 starts) for Colorado Springs.

Manship allowed a two-run home run to Nick Hundley in the second inning for his only damage of the night. He allowed two runs on two hits in two innings of work in a 10-4 victory. He also struck out three and did not issue a walk.
