(9/5/2014) Right-handed reliever Joe Savery has been outrighted by the Athletics to Triple-A Sacramento three days after they designated him for assignment.

Savery couldn't have done much more in his limited opportunity with Oakland this season. He pitched four shutout innings.

(5/18/2014) Athletics reliever Joe Savery will likely be placed on the paternity list as early as Monday, MLB.com reports.

"He's going to fly back and [the doctors will] induce [labor] tomorrow," manager Bob Melvin said. "We'll cross our fingers for him. This is his first child. We're all excited for him."

Savery gave the A's two scoreless innings of relief in a 13-3 victory over the A's Sunday. He allowed two hits and one walk in 23 pitches, 14 strikes. He has not allowed a run in his first four innings pitched since his promotion from Triple-A Sacramento on May 9.

(5/9/2014) The Athletics have promoted right-hander Fernando Rodriguez and lefty Joe Savery from Triple-A Sacramento.

The former had been sent down in late April. The latter has not pitched for Oakland this season, but did perform well in 18 appearances with Philadelphia in 2013.

Savery allowed just four runs -- two earned -- over 8 2/3 innings this spring. Elmore batted .314/.397/.353 with four RBI over 51 at-bats.

Savery came up to give the Phillies bullpen help between Roy Halladay's injury and Tyler Cloyd's first start in the rotation. He recorded a scoreless inning, but his spot is now needed for Cloyd to make Friday's start.

(4/19/2013) The Phillies recalled reliever Joe Savery Friday to take John Lannan's place on the active roster. Savery is expected to pitch out of the bullpen until the team can find a starter to replace Lannan.

Savery competed for a bullpen spot in spring training but was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley early in camp.

"It was a little bit of a frustrating and confusing situation," he told MLB.com. "But there are some guys that did their job very well last year, did their job better than I did. I came into camp knowing that those guys deservedly were ahead of me. But the good news was is I got to go to minor-league camp and pitch every few days there, so I certainly got my work in, which wasn't always the case last year."

Savery had a 5.40 ERA in 25 innings out of the Phillies' bullpen last season.
