(4/29/2008) The Padres sent RHP Mauro Zarate outright to Triple-A Portland on Tuesday.

(3/19/2008) The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Padres optioned C Colt Morton and RHP Mauro Zarate to Triple-A Portland; RHP Ernesto Frieri to Double-A San Antonio; and RHP Wilton Lopez to Class A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday. The team also reassigned INF Matt Antonelli, Edgar Gonzalez and Marshall McDougall, OF Drew Macias and Vince Sinisi, LHPs Wade LeBlanc and Arturo Lopez and RHP Paul Abraham to Portland; C Nick Hundley and Jose Lobaton and OF Will Venable to San Antonio; and OF Mike Baxter to Lake Elsinore.

Padres pick up reliever Mauro Zarate


(10/27/2007) The Padres claimed right-hander Mauro Zarate off waivers from the Florida Marlins. Zarate made his major league debut on Aug. 7 at Philadelphia and appeared in four games for the Marlins in 2007, posting an ERA of 10.80.

(8/10/2007) The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Daniel Barone was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Friday in New York. RHP Mauro Zarate was sent back to Albuquerque after allowing three runs (two earned) in 1 1/3 innings Tuesday during his lone major league appearance.
