Nick Blackburn opts for season-ending surgery

(8/15/2013) Twins pitcher Nick Blackburn will undergo season-ending surgery Friday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, according to MLB.com. He owned a 5.02 ERA over six starts in the minors.

(8/13/2013) Twins pitcher Nick Blackburn, who is down in the minors, will have his knee examined Wednesday, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports. 

Blackburn has posted a 5.02 ERA over six starts in the minors. He's working his way back from a pair of surgeries on his pitching arm.

Blackburn has been progressing through the minors after recovering from wrist surgery. He has not pitched in the majors this year. Blackburn has a 3.80 ERA in five minor-league starts.

(7/21/2013) Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Saturday it's possible starting pitcher Nick Blackburn joins the team's rotation later this year, according to The Star Tribune. Blackburn, who had January wrist surgery, was promoted to Triple-A Rochester Saturday.

Blackburn is 1-1 with a 3.80 ERA and .287 opponents' batting average in five starts between the Gulf Coast League Twins (rookie) and Double-A New Britain.

"He’s getting there. His velocity is OK, around 88-90 [mph], I believe," Ryan said. "He’s got enough sink. He’s got enough velocity. It’s going to be [determined by his] location and breaking ball. He used to have an unhittable cutter."

(6/26/2013) Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said Wednesday starting pitcher Nick Blackburn, who is recovering from January wrist surgery, will make his first rehab start for the Gulf Coast League (rookie) Twins Saturday, according to the Pioneer Press. Blackburn is expected to throw 45-50 pitches.

(6/23/2013) Twins pitcher Nick Blackburn is nearing a return to game action as he continues to recover from wrist surgery back in January, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. 

Blackburn will throw in a simulated game Monday and Minnesota hopes he'll be ready for a rehab with the GCL team shortly. The last time Blackburn pitched in a game of any kind was Sept. 2, 2012 with Triple-A Rochester.

(1/14/2013) The Star Tribune reports Twins starting pitcher Nick Blackburn, who underwent elbow surgery in October, had surgery last week on his forearm after having continued problems following his first surgery. Blackburn is expected to miss 4-6 weeks and won't be ready for the start of spring training.
