Alfonso Soriano headed to the Yankees

by Jeff Tobin | CBSSports.com
(7/26/2013) The Chicago Cubs have agreed to send outfielder Alfonso Soriano to the New York Yankees, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. The deal now needs commissioner approval.

The Yankees are expected to pay an estimated $7 million to $8 million of the $25 million remaining on Soriano's contract, according to Heyman. In return, Chicago will likely receive anywhere from one to three prospects. Heyman said pitchers Corey Black and Tommy Kahnle are strong possibilities.

Soriano played for the Yankees from 1999 to 2003, hitting 98 home runs and accumulating a .284 average. This season, he has 17 home runs, 51 RBI and a slash line of .254/.287/.467.

Alfonso Soriano says Carlos Marmol 'used to be good'

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(6/17/2013) Cubs reliever Carlos Marmol has struggled this year, and now his teammates are starting to express their frustrations with the former closer, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Cubs outfilder Alfonso Soriano had some harsh words for the reliever. "[Marmol] used to be good. I think he's good, but he's lost a little bit of his confidence, and this game is all about confidence. … I hope he gets it back and becomes the Marmol I know," Soriano said.

Soriano's comments came after Marmol gave up four runs in just one-third of an inning Sunday.

Marmol has a 6.08 ERA and a 6.36 FIP in 26 2/3 innings this year.
