(5/3/2013) With Jordy Mercer getting the start at second base, Pirates infielder Brandon Inge made his first career start in right field Friday night against the Nationals.

Inge, who last played right field back in 2004, had started each of the previous five games at second base.

He entered Friday's tilt hitting .321/.345/.357 with one double and three RBI over 28 at-bats.

(4/27/2013) With regular second baseman Neil Walker sidelined with a finger injury, the Pirates used Brandon Inge at second base for Saturday's game at St. Louis. Inge, who served as the No. 5 hitter in the batting order, has appeared in four games since being activated from the disabled list earlier this week, posting a .333 batting average.

Inge hit .150 (9 for 60) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI in 18 games for Indianapolis.

Inge has been rehabbing at Triple-A Indianapolis while recovering from a shoulder injury.

(4/9/2013) Pirates infielder Brandon Inge has played six games on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis and appears to be close to a return from his shoulder injury.

He is eligible to come off the disabled list Wednesday.

“He is making progress,” manager Clint Hurdle told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “The defensive side of it has been very, very good, especially at second base. Offensively, he's starting to get a lot more consistency and quality to his at-bats.”

(4/6/2013) Pirates infielder Brandon Inge made his minor-league rehab debut Friday with Triple-A Indianapolis, his first appearance since suffered a fractured shoulder blade March 14.

Inge was hitless in the appearance, going 0 for 3 with one walk. He played second base and was in the field for all nine innings of a 7-4 loss.

The team does not yet have a timetable for Inge's return, but he is not expected to be an every-day player with the major league team.

(4/1/2013) Pirates third baseman Brandon Inge has an incomplete fracture of his right scapula. The injury won't impact his hitting or throwing, so his timetable remains unchanged. 

The 35-year-old spent last season with the Tigers and Athletics. He hit .218/.275/.383 in 331 plate appearances.

Inge, who signed a minor-league deal with the team in the offseason, was awarded a bench spot despite being sidelined with bone bruise on his shoulder blade. The team said Inge is experiencing "lingering discomfort" in his right shoulder blade after being hit by a pitch during a game on March 14. X-rays were negative.

The deal also includes an invitation to spring training. Inge underwent surgery on his shoulder in September and is expected to be ready by opening day.
