Punto was scratched due to soreness Friday. After a couple days off, Kennedy will return to action at second Sunday. He'll hit ninth against the Yankees.

(6/14/2014) Athletics infielder Nick Punto was a late scratch Friday night against the Yankees with soreness, MLB.com reports. Manager Bob Melvin did not specify the injury and told reporters that Punto has been "a little banged up."

Punto is hitting .252 with one home run and 10 RBI in 111 at-bats. His status remains uncertain for Saturday's game against New York.

(5/29/2014) Athletics infielder Nick Punto made his presence felt at the dish in his first game back from a calf injury, homering for the first time this season and reaching base four times in his team's 5-4 defeat to the Tigers on Thursday.

Punto took starter Rick Porcello deep in the fourth inning for a two-run blast. He finished 1 for 2 with three walks, a run scored and two RBI. He is hitting .239 with eight RBI in 92 at-bats.

(5/25/2014) Athletics infielder Nick Punto took part in limited pregame activities Sunday due to a left calf strain. Punto, who sat out against the Blue Jays, is also expected to miss Monday's game against Detroit.

"We'll evaluate him once again when we get home tomorrow," manager Bob Melvin said Sunday, per MLB.com. "He feels a little better, but it's tough to really get a grasp on it until he really takes off."

Melvin is optimistic Punto won't need a stint on the disabled list, but he won't rule it out either.

"He seems to think so, but I think a guy like him is usually a little more enthusiastic about that," Melvin said. "But I'd like to think we can avoid it. I'm just not 100 percent sure."

Jaso was expected to miss Sunday's game, and he hasn't played since Thursday while dealing with a back issue. The team is targeting a Monday return for the catcher. Punto remains day to day with a calf injury.

(5/24/2014) Athletics infielder Nick Punto was out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays due to a calf strain, though the injury is not as serious at is initially appeared.

"It's better today than what we were thinking last night," manager Bob Melvin told MLB.com. "It looked like potentially it could be a DL thing, and then he came in today feeling not near as bad as what everyone expected."

Punto is now officially day to day as a result of the injury.

(11/13/2013) The Athletics signed infielder Nick Punto to a one-year deal Wednesday, according to Yahoo! Sports. Punto's contract is worth $2.75 million, and it includes a $2.75 million option for the 2015 season that vests depending on how many days he spends on the disabled list.

The versatile Punto played more than 30 games at second base, third base and shortstop each for the Dodgers in 2013, and his 116 games played was his highest total since 2009.
