Funny tweet expresses Tim Byrdak desire for a job

(2/19/2014) Left-handed reliever Tim Byrdak has taken a unique approach in his search for work. He has tweeted a humorous message to whatever general manager might be interested.

"Attention MLB GMs," it began. "For sale, late model LHR, high mileage but very serviceable! Doesn't come with all the bells and whistles of newer models (i.e. 97 mph), however I can still break a pane of glass with my fastball. ... Please call ASAP. I am driving my wife crazy being home during spring training."

The 40-year-old pitched in eight games for the Mets in 2013 and recorded a 7.71 ERA that motivated the team to release him in late January.

(11/6/2013) Mets starting pitcher Aaron Harang, relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins, starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, relief pitcher David Aardsma, relief pitcher Tim Byrdak, relief pitcher Pedro Feliciano and relief pitcher Frank Francisco have filed for free agency.

Hawkins and Francisco both spent time as the Mets closer, but Bobby Parnell is expected to fill that role in 2014.

(6/21/2013) Mets reliever Tim Byrdak will begin a rehab assignment Friday with the Gulf Coast League Mets, ESPN New York reports. Byrdak has been out since having shoulder surgery in September, so he'll likely be in rehab for almost a month as he essentially goes through a late spring training. Expect him back in New York around the All-Star break.
