Fernando Rodriguez gets stitches out

(4/13/2013) Athletics reliever Fernando Rodriguez, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, said he got his stitches out Saturday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. 

Rodriguez is looking forward to beginning cardio exercises. He's expected to be out for the entire 2013 season.

(3/28/2013) The A's announced Thursday reliever Fernando Rodriguez had successful reconstructive elbow (Tommy John) surgery. He will begin his rehab Saturday, but he will be out for the 2013 season.

Oakland claims Nate Freiman off waivers

(3/23/2013) The Oakland Athletics claimed first baseman Nate Freiman off waivers from the Houston Astros on Saturday, MLB.com reports.

In order to clear a spot on the roster, Oakland placed relief pitcher Fernando Rodriguez on the 60-day disabled list. Rodriguez is likely done for the season and may need Tommy John surgery. 

Freiman is a Rule 5 draft pick, so the A's will have to keep him on the roster all season or offer him back to the Padres.

(3/14/2013) Oakland reliever Fernando Rodriguez will require Tommy John surgery, reports the Contra Costa Times Wednesday night. Rodriguez, who left his last outing after one pitch, will miss the 2013 season. Apparently, the A's would not confirm Wednesday night, but Oakland is expected to announce Thursday.

(3/11/2013) Oakland relief pitcher Fernando Rodriguez had to leave his Cactus League appearance on Monday against the Padres after facing only one batter, reports MLB.com. Rodriguez, who walked that batter he faced, left the game holding his right elbow and was diagnosed with right elbow tightness. He's allowed three earned runs this spring over four appearances and 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.
