Twins reinstate Ricky Nolasco, Brian Duensing from disabled list

(5/1/2015) The Twins activated pitchers Ricky Nolasco and Brian Duensing from the disabled list Friday, the team announced.

Nolasco was pitching in Class A for his rehab assignment because of right elbow inflammation, while Duensing missed the last 14 games with a right intercostal strain.

In order to have Nolasco and Duensing on the 25-roster, the team sent pitchers Tommy Milone and Caleb Thielbar to its Triple-A affiliate.

(4/27/2015) After throwing a bullpen session Monday, Twins pitcher Brian Duensing will face live hitters in a simulated game Thursday, reports MLB.com.

"Duensing threw a side [Monday] of about 30 pitches and felt good," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "He'll face live hitters before the game on Thursday in the afternoon."

Duensing is suffering from a strained intercostal, which landed him on the disabled list.

(4/22/2015) Twins pitcher Brian Duensing was able to begin his throwing program Wednesday without any issues or discomfort, reports MLB.com.

Duensing, who was placed on the 15-day DL Friday with a strained right intercostal, will continue to work through the throwing program, but remains without a timetable for his return.

"Duensing played catch and everything went fine," assistant general manager Rob Antony said.

(4/21/2015) Twins pitcher Brian Duensing is on track with recovery and scheduled to begin soft tossing Wednesday, assistant general manager Rob Antony said per the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Duensing, who is dealing with an intercostal or abdominal strain, has yet to have a setback with his recovery. He is currently on the 15-day DL with the injury, but is not expected to be back with the team until mid-May. Duensing has one save this year in 3 2/3 innings with a 7.36 ERA.

(4/17/2015) A right intercostal strain has landed Twins left-handed reliever Brian Duensing on the 15-day disabled list.

The injury was sustained Thursday against Kansas City. Duensing gave up three hits and two earned runs in one-third of an inning to force closer Glen Perkins into the game.

Duensing goes down with a 7.36 ERA and three runs allowed in the last two-thirds of an inning.

(4/11/2015) Twins pitcher Brian Duensing collected a four-out save Friday against the White Sox -- his first save since May 28, 2013, and just the second of his career.

The Twins had a 3-0 lead in the eighth and had closer Glenn Perkins warm up in the bullpen. Minnesota scored three more runs in the top of the ninth and opted to stay with Duensing for the final three outs of the game. He allowed one hit and no walks in 1 1/3 innings of work.

With Thielbar heading down to the minors to start the season, Minnesota's seven-man bullpen will include Glen Perkins, Casey Fien, Brian Duensing, JR Graham, Blaine Boyer, Mike Pelfrey and Tim Stauffer.

(3/31/2015) Twins pitcher Brian Duensing struggled through his start Monday against the Red Sox, allowing six runs on eight hits in just one inning of work.

It was Duensing's first true rough start of spring training, after allowing just one run in his last seven appearances.

'"He couldn't make pitches, he got behind. But he's had a good spring overall. Things kind of snowballed on him," manager Paul Molitor said to the Star Tribune. "We just couldn't get him through that inning. I'm willing to let that go by. Obviously, you don't want to see that for anybody, but he’ll be back out there."

(3/25/2015) Twins pitcher Brian Duensing said he is sore Wednesday after getting hit by a line-drive comebacker on his upper leg during Tuesday's spring game against the Blue Jays, according to the Star Tribune.

Luckily, he was just diagnosed with a bruise and can resume baseball activities as soon as the pain subsides.

"Should only be three or four days," the left-handed pitcher said. "It won’t be long."

(1/16/2015) Twins pitcher Brian Duensing has filed for $3.1 million in arbitration, while the team has offered $2.4 million, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Duensing is eligible for arbitration for the final time before he's scheduled to reach free agency after the 2015 season. He posted a 3.31 ERA and 33:20 K:BB ratio in 54 1/3 innings over 62 appearances in 2014.

(5/15/2014) Twins reliever Brian Duensing picked up his first win of the season Thursday, after pitching a scoreless 10th inning in a 4-3 win over the Red Sox.

Duensing allowed just one walk while facing four batters, retiring one via strikeout and two on flyballs. He threw 17 pitches for the win, as the Twins went on to win in walkoff fashion in the following inning.

Duensing is 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings of work this season.

Duensing served up homers to Scott Van Slyke and Drew Butera in the 12th inning. he was charged with two run on four hits and one walk while striking out one in 2 2/3 innings. He owns a 2.03 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP in 13 1/3 innings pitched.

(3/12/2014) The breakout 2010 season for Twins pitcher Brian Duensing is fading in memory and his career could be fading as well, the St. Paul Pioneer Press has speculated.

Duensing, who won 10 of 13 decisions and recorded a sparkling 2.62 ERA that season, was banished to the bullpen full-time last year and will remain out of the rotation in 2014. He also suffered through a miserable spring. He has yielded five earned runs in three innings. He has allowed four hits, including two home runs, and two walks.

He signed a $2 million contract in the offseason to avoid arbitration.
