Brian Duensing picks up third relief win

(8/11/2014) Twins pitcher Brian Duensing picked up his third win of the season Monday night against Astros in Houston.

Duensing struck out one in two-thirds of a scoreless inning in the eighth while Joe Mauer drove in two runs in the top of the ninth. He owns a 2.30 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP over 43 innings of relief.

(7/5/2014) Twins pitcher Brian Duensing earned a win Saturday, pitching a scoreless 11th inning in his team's 2-1 victory over the Yankees.

Duensing (2-2) gave up one hit in his inning of work before the team picked up a walk-off win on an error in the bottom half of the 11th. He's surrendered just one earned run in nine innings over his last nine appearances. Duensing owns a 2.70 ERA and 18:13 K:BB ratio in 33 1/3 innings.

(5/15/2014) Twins reliever Brian Duensing picked up his first win of the season Thursday, after pitching a scoreless 10th inning in a 4-3 win over the Red Sox.

Duensing allowed just one walk while facing four batters, retiring one via strikeout and two on flyballs. He threw 17 pitches for the win, as the Twins went on to win in walkoff fashion in the following inning.

Duensing is 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings of work this season.

(5/2/2014) Twins reliever Brian Duensing was pegged with the loss in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.

Duensing served up homers to Scott Van Slyke and Drew Butera in the 12th inning. he was charged with two run on four hits and one walk while striking out one in 2 2/3 innings. He owns a 2.03 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP in 13 1/3 innings pitched.

(3/12/2014) The breakout 2010 season for Twins pitcher Brian Duensing is fading in memory and his career could be fading as well, the St. Paul Pioneer Press has speculated.

Duensing, who won 10 of 13 decisions and recorded a sparkling 2.62 ERA that season, was banished to the bullpen full-time last year and will remain out of the rotation in 2014. He also suffered through a miserable spring. He has yielded five earned runs in three innings. He has allowed four hits, including two home runs, and two walks.

He signed a $2 million contract in the offseason to avoid arbitration.

Duensing was initially told he would compete for a spot in the rotation, but it appears that experiment has already ended. Duensing posted a 3.98 ERA in 61 innings last season, but pitched solely out of the bullpen. He started 11 games in 2012.

However, with the offseason signings of Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes, a source said it appears Swarzak might now be the only pitcher of the two to be vying for a rotation spot.

The Braves would like to talk about acquiring Minnesota closer Glen Perkins, but indications are he won't be available via a trade. However, reliever Brian Duensing could be a trade candidate.

(5/29/2013) Twins reliever Brian Duensing pitched the bottom of the 14th inning early Wednesday morning to finish off a game that began Tuesday in Milwaukee. Duensing recorded his first career save in the process. 

Minnesota got a sacrifice fly from Eduardo Escobar in the top of the 14th and Duensing got three outs in the bottom to close it out. He gave up one hit and lowered his ERA to 3.60. 

Duensing is generally a middle reliever for the Twins and has struck out 17 over 20 innings with nine holds.

(4/25/2013) Twins reliever Brian Duensing was able to pitch for the first time in five days Thursday, after overcoming a bout of flu-like symptoms.

Duensing pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out one batter. He needed just 16 pitches in the outing. The Twins lost the game, 2-1.

Duensing has a 2.84 ERA with four strikeouts, two walks and eight hits allowed in 6 1/3 innings.
