Phillies call up Seth Rosin, DFA Phillippe Aumont

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(6/20/2015) The Phillies purchased the contract of pitcher Seth Rosin , the team announced on Saturday.

Rosin appeared in three games with Texas last season in his only other MLB experience. He was 2-1 with three saves and a 2.65 ERA at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season.

To make room, the Phillies designated pitcher Phillippe Aumont for assignment. Aumont suffered a loss in his only appearance with the Phillies.

Phillies SP Phillippe Aumont gets roughed up in first MLB start

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6/19/2015) Phillies right-hander Phillippe Aumont had a rough time in his first career start on Friday night. Aumont lasted just four innings against the Cardinals, allowing six runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked seven. He threw 104 pitches, with just 56 going for strikes, as the Cardinals went on to win 12-4.

Aumont, who was making a spot start for the injured Cole Hamels, gave up a pair of two-run home runs in the second inning, one to Yadier Molina and the other to Kolten Wong. In the fourth, he served up a two-run double to Jhonny Peralta.

"It was just a constant battle a little bit with myself," Aumont said, per MLB.com. "That's what it's been my whole career. Just me, myself and I out there battling. Nobody else. Because when I execute my pitches I get these guys out down there and up here. Just keep your chest high and keep working at it. The mental part is a big part of the game, and you've got to be strong at it."

The seven walks issued by Aumont are the most for a Phillies pitcher since 2004. It is not yet known if Aumont will get another start, or if he will head to the bullpen (or Triple-A).

Phillies' Phillippe Aumont to make first career MLB start Friday

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/18/2015) Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels will not start Friday against the Cardinals due to a hamstring injury, so Philadelphia is dipping into their minor-league system to recall Phillippe Aumont from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start in Hamels' absence.

The Phillies will make a transaction Friday to get Aumont on the active roster.

Aumont, who was a 2007 first-round pick, has never started a game at the major-league level. He is 1-5 with a 6.13 ERA in 45 relief appearances.

However, he has made 10 starts for Lehigh Valley this season. He is 3-4 with a 2.55 ERA and 1.42 WHIP as a starter at Triple-A in 2015.

Phillies' Phillippe Aumont off to hot start at Triple-A

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/13/2015) Phillies pitcher Phillippe Aumont threw seven scoreless innings with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, dropping his ERA to 1.29 in 21 innings across four starts.

"Phillippe told me he's extremely happy to be back in the rotation," Phillies director of player development Joe Jordan said, per MLB.com. "He looks like it. There's a tempo to what he's doing. He used to take forever between pitches. He's crisp. He has some big misses, but he gets right back in the zone. Seven strong innings today, really. He had an above-average, maybe well above-average fastball. Above-average breaking ball. Two major-league pitches.

"He's just in a great frame of mind. Right-handed hitters had no chance on his breaking ball today. He locked up about five or six. He was 94-96 mph with his fastball. They just couldn't pull the trigger on the breaking ball."

If Aumont continues to excel in the minors, he could soon find himself in the team's major-league rotation, which is 27th in baseball with a 5.14 starter ERA.

"He didn't look out of place today at all," Jordan said. "We're staying with it. We're committed to it. We're going to try to find out. He looks the part."

Phillippe Aumont's bid for spot on Phillies' roster not off to great start

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/6/2015) Phillies reliever Phillippe Aumont is out of minor-league options, so if he doesn't make the team this spring, he is subject to waivers. Thus far, however, his bid for a roster spot is not going well.

After allowing a run in his lone inning of work Sunday against the University of Tampa, Aumont allowed solo homers on consecutive pitches in the fifth inning of Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Astros.

"This is a big spring training for him as far as the Phillies go and him (being) with the Phillies," manager Ryne Sandberg said after Thursday's game, per The Philadelphia Inquirer. "He's had multiple chances and this is a clean slate opportunity for him in spring training coming in with opportunities and with some spots available.

"It should be a fresh start for him after the offseason. The biggest thing for him is to work ahead, and really, he has a good breaking ball when he can get to those counts. But sometimes he gets hit before he gets to those counts."

Phillies' Phillippe Aumont looking to capitalize on opportunity

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/2/2015) Phillies pitcher Phillippe Aumont is out of options and must be exposed to waivers if he doesn't make the 25-man roster, but he said Sunday he hasn't thought much about a change of scenery, MLB.com reports.

"Yeah, I mean, it crossed my mind," Aumont said. "But at the moment, I'm here, so I want to compete for this team. If it ever comes down to that and I go somewhere else, then I'll think about it when I'm there. But right now, the Phillies are giving me that opportunity, and I'm taking it and I'm going for it."

Aumont gave up three hits and one run in Sunday's exhibition game against the University of Tampa.

"I feel much better this spring," Aumont said. "I feel like I caught on to some stuff that I've been working on. This is my eighth, ninth spring training. I know how to throw a baseball. I'm not doing it maybe perfectly, but I know how to do it."

Aumont spent most of last season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he went 3-3 with a 3.93 ERA and 65:39 K:BB ratio in 55 innings.

Phillippe Aumont needs to get 'mind right'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/10/2013) Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee is hopeful reliever Phillippe Aumont's demotion Tuesday to Triple-A Lehigh Valley will help the right-handed reliever fix what has been ailing him on the mound, according to the Wilmington News Journal.

"Out of the bullpen you need to perform at a consistent basis," Dubee said. "The need isn’t to win [there]. Up here, the need is to win. We’re supposed to win every night. So hopefully this will give him more time to get out there on a regular basis."

Dubee said Aumont's fastball has been "flat" and explained he needs to rely more on his sinker to get outs. Dubee added Aumont needed to "get his mind right."

"He’s seen enough major-league hitters now he should know what gets a major-league hitter and what doesn’t get them out," Dubee said. "If he’s not making good enough pitches, he has to push himself to make better pitches now, so when he does come up here he has that ability ingrained in him."

Phillippe Aumont battling 'command issues'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/15/2013) Phillies reliever Phillippe Aumont might have a 2.45 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 11 innings this season, but it doesn't tell the entire story. Aumont has also issued 10 walks, allowed 11 hits and has a 1.91 WHIP in 13 outings.

"Phillippe right now, he's going to have command issues," pitching coach Rich Dubee said, per MLB.com. "He can dot a couple pitches then miss with a bad one. But he's much improved from where he was at the beginning of last year in Triple-A where walks snowballed against him."
