Fernandez among Twins cuts


(3/14/2011) The Twins announced 14 cuts on Monday. David Bromberg, Eric Hacker, Anthony Swarzak and Rene Tosoni were optioned to Triple-A Rochester. Deolis Guerra, Chris Parmalee, Yorman Bazardo, Kyle Gibson, Jair Fernandez, Chris Herrmann, Ray Chang, Brian Dozier, Justin Huber and Joe Benson were also sent down to minor-league camp.

(3/6/2011) Twins C Jair Fernandez went 1 for 1 in Saturday's game against the Rays, but what made news was what happened to the 24-year-old before he got the base-knock. He was stung by a bee while drinking Gatorade in the dugout. "Other than Fernandez getting stung in the mouth, everything went really good," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "We had to pull the stinger out of the inside of his mouth. The trainers did it with tweezers. ... It got us off on the right foot. A rally sting."

(3/29/2008) The Seattle Mariners essentially set their opening day roster on Saturday, and it will include spring star Mike Morse and speedy Charlton Jimerson as the last two position players to make the team. The Mariners' roster became clear after they traded minor league catcher Jair Fernandez to Minnesota on Saturday in exchange for the Twins rejecting Seattle's offer to return Rule 5 draftee R.A. Dickey.
