D-Backs deal for Skelton's rights

(4/2/2009) Arizona traded right-handed pitcher Brooks Brown to Detroit for Rule-5 catcher James Skelton. The Diamondbacks sent Skelton to Double-A Mobile after hitting .150 with four runs scored, a double and one RBI. Brown, a non-roster invitee to Arizona's camp, had a 20.25 ERA with six earned runs in four games.

Skelton working on his versatility

(2/17/2009) Diamondbacks C James Skelton, acquired from the Tigers in the Rule-5 draft, has worked on fielding ground balls and fly balls in the hopes of improving his versatility, according to the Arizona Republic. "I've seen him with good feet for a guy who has never played the infield since high school," coach Chip Hale said. "He has really soft hands. He worked hard at all the infield positions. Hitting fungos, he looked like he'd have no problem fielding the ball and throwing to first. Obviously, we don't know what it's going to look like in game situations. He definitely has the body and the feet and the hands to be able to play the infield."

D-Backs pick up C Skelton via Rule-5

(12/12/2008) The Diamondbacks selected catcher James Skelton from the Tigers in the Rule-5 Draft. In five seasons, Skelton holds a .292 batting average with 155 runs scored, 45 doubles, five triples, 13 home runs and 114 RBI in 276 games in the Tigers' organization. Skelton was selected as a Florida State League West Division All-Star this past season after being selected to the Midwest League's midseason and postseason All-Star squads in 2007 for West Michigan (A). He began this past season in high Class A, playing in 63 games, batting .307 with 43 runs scored, eight doubles, two triples, three home runs and 23 RBI, before being promoted to Double-A on July 31. He saw action in 24 games for the SeaWolves, batting .294 with 22 runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. Skelton was named the 27th-best prospect in the Tigers' organization prior to the 2008 season by Baseball America.

(3/12/2008) The Tigers trimmed 12 players from their spring roster Wednesday: RHP Armando Galarraga and LHP Macay McBride were optioned to Triple-A, while RHP Rick Porcello was optioned to Class A; RHP Jeff Gerbe, C Joe Bowen, C Dusty Ryan, C James Skelton, 1B Jeff Larish, INF Daniel Worth, OF Matthew Joyce, OF Wilkin Ramirez and OF Clete Thomas were reassigned to minor league camp.
