David Carpenter picks up save Monday

(4/14/2014) Braves pitcher David Carpenter earned his first save of the season Monday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning in his team's 9-6 win over the Phillies.

The Braves decided to rest closer Craig Kimbrel Monday despite the two offenses coming alive in the eighth and ninth innings, as the team's combined to score 12 runs in the final two innings while passing the lead back and forth. Carpenter was able to slam the door by giving up just one walk and striking out one. He owns a 4.50 ERA and 8:3 K:BB ratio in six innings.


Braves recall David Carpenter

(4/30/2013) The Braves recalled reliever David Carpenter from Triple-A Gwinnett Tuesday.

Carpenter will take the spot of Luis Ayala, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an anxiety disorder. Carpenter is 1-2 with a 3.52 ERA through 15 1/3 innings in the minors. He has yet to make an appearance with the Braves this season.

David Carpenter added to Braves bullpen

(2:36 pm ET) The Braves recalled pitcher David Carpenter from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday to fill the roster spot vacated by second baseman Blake DeWitt after he was placed on the disabled list. Carpenter, who was one of Atlanta's final cuts during the spring, posted a 1-2 record and 4.76 ERA over four relief appearances for Gwinnett.

David Carpenter, Mitch Stetter fighting for Angels' bullpen

(3/26/2013) David Carpenter and Mitch Stetter are fighting for the final spot in the Angels' bullpen.

The team could also send Garrett Richards to Triple-A to act as an emergency starter, but he has a 1.88 ERA in 14 1/3 innings this spring.

Carpenter has been bothered by a back injury during the spring, which pushed his debut back to March 17.

Stetter was a non-roster invite to camp, and has been strong against lefties over his career. 


Braves begin to finalize roster

(3/26/2013) The Atlanta Braves announced Tuesday that Jordan Schafer has made the opening day roster, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Atlanta optioned infielder Tyler Pastornicky, outfielder Jose Constanza and reliever David Carpenter to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Braves skipper Freddi Gonzalez said Pastornicky, who hit .375 this spring with two homers and 14 RBI over 56 at-bats, remains a valuable piece for the team. He will play second, shortstop and some outfield in the minors. He'll play mostly second after Paul Janish returns. 

The 26-year-old Schafer hit .241 this spring with four stolen bases. The speedster will be a backup outfielder. 


Carpenter shipped to Red Sox

(10/21/2012) The Blue Jays sent right-hander David Carpenter to the Red Sox Sunday to complete the deal that brought them infielder Mike Aviles as compensation for manager John Farrell.
