Braves place Manny Banuelos on DL; promote David Carpenter

(7/28/2015) The Braves placed starting pitcher Manny Banuelos on the 15-day disabled list because of left elbow inflammation, while also promoting pitcher David Carpenter from Triple-A Gwinnett, the team announced Tuesday.

Banuelos was scheduled to start on Wednesday.


Nationals shut down RP David Carpenter's throwing program

(7/22/2015) Nationals reliever David Carpenter's throwing program was put on hold after the pitcher experienced some discomfort, per CSNWashington.com. 

Carpenter, who was placed on the disabled list last week with shoulder inflammation, had an MRI and a cortisone shot, and will now receive a few days off in order to rest his shoulder. 

Carpenter is 0-1 with a 4.01 ERA in 30 appearances between the Nationals and Yankees.

(7/17/2015) The Nationals placed pitcher David Carpenter on the 15-day disabled list Friday, the team announced. Carpenter has been bothered by inflammation in his right shoulder.

With Carpenter on the DL, the team recalled left-handed pitcher Sammy Solis from the minor leagues. Solis produced a 4.50 ERA over 10 innings of work earlier this season.

(7/6/2015) The Nationals have recalled left-hander Sammy Solis from Double-A Harrisburg and placed righty David Carpenter on the paternity list.

Solis made his major league debut by pitching in five games for Washington in late April and early May. He managed three shutout appearances before getting clobbered for five runs in three innings over his last two.

Carpenter, who came over in a mid-June trade from the Yankees, has since given up just one run in six innings.

(6/11/2015) The Yankees traded reliever David Carpenter to the Nationals on Thursday in exchange for minor-league infielder Tony Renda.

Carpenter went 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA in 22 relief outings before he was placed on waivers. The right-hander is 11-11 with a 3.73 ERA in 210 relief appearances at the MLB level.

Renda was a second-round draft pick in 2012. He has a .288/.366/.365/.731 slash line in 367 minor-league games. He was playing for Double-A Harrisburg before Thursday's trade.

(2/21/2015) Yankees pitcher David Carpenter told reporters he is working on adding a splitter to compliment his fastball and slider this season, according to NJ.com.

"It's something I've toyed with in the past," Carpenter said. "It's something I haven't really had a whole lot of success with. So I kind of put it on the back burner for a while. He (pitching coach Larry Rothschild) and I talked about it shortly after I had been traded. He asked about all the pitches I've thrown. I said something about the splitter, and that it wasn't a main pitch. But he said, 'I think I can help you with that.' So getting to come down here and getting to talk with him and seeing what I could do with it."

Carpenter went 6-4 with a 3.54 ERA and three saves in 65 outings for Atlanta in 2014. He is 11-10 with a 3.62 ERA over four seasons in the majors.


Report: Yanks reach agreement with Eovaldi, Carpenter

(1/16/2015) The Yankees have reached arbitration settlements with pitchers Nathan Eovaldi and David Carpenter, a source told the New York Daily News on Friday. Eovaldi, who was recently acquired in a trade with the Marlins, will make approximately $3.3 million next season. Carpenter is due to make approximately $1.3 million.

(1/1/2015) The Yankees traded pitcher Manny Banuelos to the Braves in exchange for pitcher David Carpenter and pitcher Chasen Shreve, confirms CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. YES Network was the first to report the deal.

The former top-100 prospect Banuelos went 2-3 with a 4.11 ERA over 26 minor-league appearances (25 starts) in 2014. He pitched at Class A, Double-A and Triple-A. He missed the 2013 season due to Tommy John surgery.

Carpenter went 6-4 with a 3.54 ERA and three saves in 65 outings for Atlanta in 2014. He is 11-10 with a 3.62 ERA over four seasons in the majors. He has also pitched for Houston and Toronto.

The 24-year-old Shreve made his MLB debut in 2014, posting a 0.73 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 15 relief appearances. He also had 15 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings.

(8/20/2014) Braves pitcher David Carpenter took the loss Wednesday, giving up one unearned run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning in his team's 3-2 defeat against the Pirates.

Carpenter (4-3) surrendered a leadoff single but retired the next batter before an error put runners on second and third with only one out. A sacrifice fly by the next man up ended the game in walkoff fashion. Carpenter owns a 3.69 ERA and 57:11 K:BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Carpenter will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett Saturday. The expected length of his assignment is not yet known.
