Clayton Mortensen lands on disabled list

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(6/11/2013) The Red Sox placed reliever Clayton Mortensen on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a right groin strain, the Boston Globe reports. This is the corresponding roster move to Jose De La Torre being called up to help out the beleaguered bullpen.

Mortensen is 1-2 with a 5.34 ERA over 24 appearances this season. He has 21 strikeouts over 30 1/3 innings. He pitched in Monday's 14-inning game against the Rays.

Clayton Mortensen could be headed for the disabled list

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(6/11/2013) Red Sox reliever Clayton Mortensen might be on his way to the disabled list, according to Comcast Sports Net.

Mortensen pitched Monday but is dealing with a hip issue. The team is believed to be calling up Jose De La Torre, so a corresponding move still needs to be made. Putting Mortensen on the disabled list would solve their roster crunch.

Mortensen has a 5.34 ERA and a 4.85 FIP in 30 1/3 innings.

Clayton Mortensen makes opening day roster

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/28/2013) Red Sox reliever Clayton Mortensen, who is out of options, secured a spot in the team's bullpen Thursday after reliever Daniel Bard was optioned to Double-A Portland. Mortensen is 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA in six spring outings (one start).

Clayton Mortensen shaping versatility

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(3/15/2013) Red Sox pitcher Clayton Mortensen allowed two hits in three scoreless innings during Boston's 3-3 tie against Baltimore in a Grapefruit League contest Friday. Mortensen, who is vying for a spot on the Red Sox staff, earned the start and struck out one batter and walked one during his fourth appearance of the spring.

"My particular role this year could involve many things, possibly a spot start in the future. It was good to get out there and do well," he said.

Mortensen a hot commodity?

(2/19/2013) Red Sox reliever Clayton Mortensen posted a 3.21 ERA in 26 appearances in the majors last season and is competing for a spot in the bullpen during the spring. With all of the depth Boston has in the bullpen, MLB.com reports the club is worried about losing the right-hander if he doesn't make the 25-man roster. "The one thing when you look at Mortensen, his contrast of style, he's got an outstanding slider and changeup," manager John Farrell said Tuesday. "He has the ability in those games where he came in down a couple runs, with that changeup, he's got the ability to slow some bats down. A little bit different delivery with some deception in there. Again, [he is] another guy that took advantage of opportunity that might have been different than what he had in the past, and [he] did a good job."
