by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Walters' wife is due to give birth shortly after the start, and he will leave the team to be present for the birth. The team moved to a six-man rotation in order to accommodate Walters' absense. Walters had a 5.95 ERA in eight starts in the majors before he was sent down.

(7/4/2013) The Twins designated pitcher P.J. Walters for assignment after Thursday's game. He makes way for Mike Pelfrey to rejoin the team's rotation this weekend.

Walters went 2-5 with a 5.95 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings over eight starts.

P.J. Walters might not last long

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/4/2013) Twins pitcher P.J. Walters may not be long for the rotation, as he could be the odd-man out with Mike Pelfrey set to return from the disabled list this weekend.

Walters has a 5.95 ERA and 2-5 record in eight starts, and the Pioneer Press speculates the 28-year-old could be waived before his next scheduled start Monday.

"They haven't told me anything," Walters said. "My job right now is to get ready to pitch in five days."

P.J. Walters loses it in sixth

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(7/3/2013) Twins starter P.J. Walters suffered the loss Wednesday during a home start against the Yankees. He was no match for CC Sabathia.

Walters actually held a 2-0 lead until giving up three runs to the Yankees in the sixth inning. He lost to fall to 2-5 on the year. Walters allowed three runs on four hits and three walks over five innings with three strikeouts. He threw 79 pitches and his ERA is at 5.95.

The 28-year-old has dropped his last four starts and last five decisions and hasn't won since moving to 2-0 back on May 30. He will look for his third win when he next starts Monday at Tampa Bay.

P.J. Walters roughed up by Royals

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(6/28/2013) Twins pitcher P.J. Walters was hit hard as he suffered his fourth loss of the season Friday night against the Royals.

Walters has allowed 16 runs combined over his last three starts (nine innings). He is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday at home against the Yankees.

P.J. Walters can't finish first inning in loss

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6/22/2013) Twins pitcher P.J. Walters couldn't make it out of the first inning Saturday against the Indians, giving up a double and five walks, with all six runners eventually scoring. By surrendering six earned runs in 2/3 of an inning, Walters' ERA rose from 3.23 to 4.88, while his record fell to 2-3.

Walters will face the Royals Friday, unless he gets pulled from the rotation after the poor performance Saturday.

P.J. Walters suffers defeat against Tigers

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(6/16/2013) Twins starter P.J. Walters surrendered two homers Sunday during a home start against the Tigers. Walters suffered the defeat as Doug Fister was excellent for Detroit.

Walters fell to 2-2 on the season as he gave up four earned runs on nine hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. He needed 101 pitches as he struck out four batters. Torii Hunter homered for a two-run shot off him in the first inning and he gave up another two-run homer to Austin Jackson in the fourth.

The 28-year-old was making just his fifth start of the season and raised his ERA from 2.49 to 3.23. He's been solid more often than not thus far and makes his sixth start Saturday at Cleveland.

P.J. Walters takes tough-luck no-decision

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(6/11/2013) Twins starter P.J. Walters was saddled with a tough-luck no-decision Tuesday at home against Philadelphia. Walters gave up just one earned run, but Minnesota's offense did little and the bullpen allowed the score to be tied after he left.

Walters allowed two runs -- one earned -- on six hits and a walk over 7 1/3 solid innings, but couldn't pull the win. He struck out five over 97 pitches and his ERA is at 2.49 on the year.

Walters, who has made four starts, reached his season-high in innings by a wide margin as he'd gone six innings in each of his first three outings. He's 2-1 and has looked good as a starter. His next outing is scheduled for Sunday against Detroit.

P.J. Walters suffers first losing decision

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(6/5/2013) Twins starter P.J. Walters was solid Wednesday in Kansas City. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said about his defense.

Walters gave up just three unearned runs in the ballgame and he took the loss to fall to 2-1 on the season with a 3.00 ERA. Walters allowed seven hits, three walks and struck out two over 116 pitches and six innings Wednesday.

The 28-year-old, who was making just his third start, has gone at least six innings in each. He won his first two outings despite pitching better Wednesday. Walters makes his next scheduled start Tuesday against Philadelphia.

P.J. Walters gets another win

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Twins to start P.J. Walters Saturday

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(5/24/2013) Twins starter P.J. Walters will get the call-up and the start Saturday against Detroit, MLB.com reports.

P.J. Walters to start for Twins this weekend

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/23/2013) Twins pitcher P.J. Walters said he will be promoted to start this weekend, DemocratandChronicle.com reports. Walters will presumably fill the Twins' open rotation spot Friday.

Walters is 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 46:16 K:BB ratio in 54 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season.

Twins undecided on Friday starter

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(5/20/2013) Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Monday that he is unsure who will start Friday against Detroit, MLB.com reports.

Gardenhire said it will either be Kyle Gibson, P.J. Walters or Samuel Deduno to make the start.

Gibson has been dominant in the minors lately but Walters and Deduno have more major league experience at this time.

Twins finalizing rotation plans

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(3/26/2013) The Twins narrowed their list of candidates for the fifth spot in the starting rotation Tuesday by optioning pitchers Samuel Deduno and P.J. Walters to their minor-league camp. The move essentially leaves Cole De Vries as the leading candidate for the position.

Deduno was slowed by a minor groin issue recently, which limited him to just one appearance with the big-league club in Grapefruit League play. Walters, meanwhile, surrendered three runs in three innings during his lone start in exhibition play on Sunday.

P.J. Walters takes mound for Twins

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/24/2013) Twins rotation long shot P.J. Walters made a start against the Blue Jays in Grapefruit League competition Sunday. Walters lasted three innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Walters, who is not on the 40-man roster, allowed a two-run home run to Luis Jimenez -- one of two on the day hit by Jimenez -- in the second inning. Walters allowed his first runs of the spring Sunday after going his first 10 innings scoreless for the Twins. He has nine Ks over 13 innings on the spring.

Walters went 2-5 with a 5.69 ERA for the Twins last year over 12 starts. He does not seem likely to break camp with the Twins as a starter. Perhaps he could still win a bullpen spot.

Walters decent in losing effort

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/29/2012) Minnesota starting pitcher P.J. Walters turned in a decent performance but suffered his fifth loss of the season during Saturday's outing against the Tigers. Walters, who was making his 12th start of the year, surrendered just two runs on four hits in five innings of work in a 6-4 defeat. Walters allowed a solo home run to Prince Fielder and an RBI double to Jhonny Peralta all in the second innings. He struck out five and walked one in 92 pitches while his ERA went down to 5.69 on the year.
