Giants RP Sergio Romo earns second save of season Monday

(7/28/2015) Giants pitcher Sergio Romo recorded the final three outs of the ninth inning to earn his second save of the season during Monday's 4-2 win over the Brewers.

Romo allowed one hit and struck out two during the appearance. He is now 2 for 2 in save chances this season with a 4.26 ERA.

Romor earned his first save of the season with the solid performance.

Romo dropped to 0-4 on the year. He gave up runs for the second straight game and third time in the last four outings.

Giants' Bochy will avoid using Santiago Casilla for a few days

(7/2/2015) Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday he is going to stay away from closer Santiago Casilla for a few days due to general fatigue.

Bochy said Casilla looked a little tired after the right-hander suffered his fourth blown save during a 6-5 loss to the Marlins on Wednesday. Casilla could not protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning, as he recorded no outs and allowed a three-run, walk-off homer to Justin Bour. Casilla allowed three hits in the inning.

Prior to Wednesday's meltdown, Casilla had thrown nine straight scoreless outings. He allowed two hits and two walks, while striking out eight in 7 1/3 innings during that span.

Bochy said if a save situation arises in the next few days, then he will play the matchups using relievers Sergio Romo and Javier Lopez.

(6/24/2015) Although Giants pitcher Sergio Romo is dealing with soreness in his knee, he was able to make it through drills Wednesday and he could pitch if needed during Wednesday's contest, reports the San Jose Mercury News.

Romo was forced to leave Tuesday's game after he hyperextended his left knee.

(6/24/2015) Giants reliever Sergio Romo was forced to exit Tuesday's game in the ninth inning with a hyperextended left knee, according to the San Francisco Chronicle

Romo entered the game with two outs in the eighth, with the score tied 2-2. He struck out the first batter he faced to end the inning. Romo then started the ninth, getting the first two outs before leaving with the injury.

The extent of the injury is not known, and there is currently no timetable for his return.

Santiago Casilla and Javier Lopez filled in during his absence. Romo has not pitched since May 28 and currently has an 0-2 record with a 3.63 ERA in 17 1/3 innings of work this season.

Romo started the eighth, with the game tied at three. After getting an out, he allowed a solo home run to Marlon Byrd. He was taken out of the game after walking the next batter. 

Romo's record is now 0-2 with a 4.09 ERA.

(4/4/2015) Although Santiago Casilla is ticketed as the Opening Day closer, Giants manager Bruce Bochy revealed that he may slide Sergio Romo in every once and a while, depending on the matchup, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area on Saturday.

Romo is in the midst of a solid spring campaign, allowing only two earned runs with 10 strikeouts and no walks over 7 2/3 innings of work. He owns a 0.95 WHIP over that span.

Romo has been held back some during early workouts as a result. Romo admitted he felt a little pain in his shoulder during the 2014 season. Via CSN Bay Area, an MRI is not needed. It's not considered to be a serious injury.

FOXSports.com Baseball Writer Ken Rosenthal was the first to report the signing. 

Romo recorded 23 saves in 2014 for San Francisco, posting a 3.72 ERA in 58 innings of work. Romo was also reportedly being pursued by the Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox this offseason.

(9/17/2014) Giants pitcher Sergio Romo picked up a win Wednesday, giving up one hit and striking out one in a scoreless inning of work in his team's 4-2 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Romo (6-4) threw 12 of his 14 pitches for strikes while delivering his third straight scoreless outing. After struggling in June and losing the closer role, he's performed well over the last month and a half, giving up just two earned runs in 13 1/3 innings since the beginning of August. Romo owns a 3.90 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 57:12 K:BB ratio in 55 1/3 innings.
